I legitimately fear this happening to me every day. My fear is worsened by the fact that I have no warranty. I check my oil pressure about every 30 seconds while driving. Haven’t seen too many 2018’s and mine was built right on that Nov 2017 window where the fails seem to be ending.

Have any late MY '18s or any '19s had these failures? I see on the poll there are no 19s listed yet, mostly 18s, but were they early or late in the MY?

Does anyone know if the LT1 uses the same pump? I would think so but most failures seem to be on LT4's

Wow, this is a strange issue for sure.

I unloaded my SS that had the shudder (fixed with a flush, at least for now). In 25 years of driving, never had TC issue with any other car.

Should be picking up my Z any day now...again never had an oil pump fail in all my years (and hope I don’t). I can’t imagine this issue is low on the Chevy teams priority list... replacing engines is a heck of a lot more expensive than oil pumps, as in like 75 to 1 (+/-)

This was an issue on 2005/2006 LS2s. Mine failed in my GTO years ago with 33,000 miles, just pulling out of work and although I shut it down ASAP when the oil pressure gauge dropped to 9, it cost me a complete top end, from the cam up. I am a huge GM fan but the fact this problem resurfaces just makes me shake my head.

I looked at that poll pretty hard, as I recently just bought a new left over 2018. The back and forth in that poll, basically seems as if, the ones that had failed were built june thru november of 2018. Obviously not all cars built during that time failed, but that was the consensus.
Unfortunately my new car was built 11/18 so I am in that bubble. Didnt think GM has officially acknowledged anything yet.

And this isn't true if this new dry sump oil pump fails. The complexity of an aftermarket dry sump is extreme, with many more potential points of failure... and you would lose your GM engine warranty installing it. If my 100% stock engine fails on track it's covered by GM, if I add dry sump it isn't.

The problem isn't oil starvation because the system can't supply enough oil during high G turns (reason to install dry sump). It's that the pump in this wet sump is breaking due to mfg defect.

Also, I know a few people with dry sump Corvettes and Z28s with engine failure due to oil starvation, so that isn't always a perfect solution to oiling problems on these Chevy vehicles.
Gotcha,thanks

Update.... They said it was indeed the oil pump and they ordered it. They said no metal in the oil. They said once they put in the new oil pump they will listen for any weird noises and do a test drive. Is this good news or bad news?

Probably too late, but you could get an oil sample top Blackstone to see if there's excessive lead, etc. in the oil from starvation.

Yes, same pump.

As for those wondering if the engine would see some damage with no oil pressure at idle/low rpms, it really wouldn't...not unless you drove it like a mile like this. Heck, I've worked on enough cars with oil pressure issues to know that engines can take a real beating cause even with no oil they can last a surprising amount of time, like SEVERAL minutes with zero issues.

So to replace a oil pump, do they have to drop the pan? Can they do this w/o removing the engine?
Even if this was done on GM's dime...I am not sure my local dealer has people on staff that have done work like this on a regular basis, so no OJT to do it correctly.

Honestly, it took 3 days for them to even tell me that it was the oil pump so I imagine they brought in a special tech. I'll ask when I pick it up and also ask if it's the same pump part number as the one that failed.

Most dealerships have what they call a "heavy line" that's a group of bays where they swing and rebuild engines, trannys and rears. They were probably waiting for a spot to open up for you that's why it took 3 days.
