If you got this information from online catalogs, those are always behind on new part number and very often show parts under an old part number as discontinued before those get linked up to their successors.
Not saying this is definitely the case here, but 1) it's extremely unlikely that gm would discontinue the 10L90 transmission and 2) a similar thing happened around dark 1LE taillights and it turned out it was just the upgrade package part number that was discontinued.

Yes.....the whole bumper cover must be removed to replace the upper
