Yes, there were 2 coupes used as track cars this year. They were both assigned out to Indy Police chief / sheriff staff instead of the convertibles. there was also a black car with event graphics we are researching.

Awesome pictures Scott!!! I may have to save some of yours, you did a much better job taking pictures than I did. The first picture of a '67 (with the yellow flags, next to the silver 2002) is me, standing behind the truck lid in a yellow shirt with my fathers day straw fedora type hat. Must of been stashing stuff to keep out of the rain.

The story on the coupes is pretty much the same as always, it seems to happen every year as far back as '67 even where there were a few RS only festival cars and rumored to be two or three coupes as well. IMS, the Festival comittee, etc. always seem to miscommunicate and more promises get made then they have cars to fill them. Couldn't get the right color and striped 'verts in time as they're still somewhat limited still so they did the next best thing, white coupes with the inferno orange interior and regular RPO orange stripes. And even if they aren't Z4Z pace cars the fact that they now have a "Civic Event" plate associated with their VIN and they were used at the track that makes them Festvial or Event cars. Pretty cool one to have! I got a short ride in #53 while the pace car professor had possesion of it.

EDIT: BTW there are three of the coupes, at one time all three were side by side in the flag lot where the one if pictured, but I can't find one of the pictures now.

If you're speaking of the red 2SS's, in late '09 as part of the centennial celebration they made 24 identical victory red 2SS/RS L99 automatic "Indy Edition" cars. If you bought one you'd get to take delivery at IMS during a special ceremony and presentation and then get to do two laps around the track in yours.

I was lucky enough to have taken part as they wanted a '67 pace car there and I got to park in the PACE CAR GARAGE!!!!!!!!!

EDIT: My guess is the white 2011 'vert with the Indy Edition decals and pace car like stripes is something that the owner did to their car as I've not seen another like it.
