When I was a kid in Nebraska, not only did we fill the gas tank 1/2 way up with sand, top it off with water, then add gas.....but we also waited until early November to change from our summer tires to our cheater slicks and drop spindles.
The combination of added weight, lower tread height, and lowering the overall vehicle closer to the ground really helped us get around in the snow and ice. There was even one time that I had the chance to help a couple others slow down and keep from sliding into on-coming traffic. You'd be amazed how much stopping power a "high-centered" 1983 Berlinetta has! The only thing we never really figured out was to keep the radiator and wind-shield fluid from freezing up. We tried everything and we were always sure to use the best distilled water that we could find. Made sure we flushed all of that glycol crap out. If anyone has a fix, I'd love to hear about it. |

the other engine (and everything that's supposed to be with it) showed up this morning, but it was raining all day... didn't feel like crawling in the mud to bolt the transmission & exhaust together. not to mention i still can't find frame mounts. i guess i'll buy new ones

I've heard of throwing sand bags over the rear axle in the bed, but never pouring it into the tank.
