Boston Bruins defense: straight talk.
Let's not dwell on the shoulda coulda woulda. That's past.
Here's my take: The Bruins must get rid of Chara. It's cold. It's calculating. It is needed. Why? Chara is a big man. Still a good player. But mobility...his positional play can only do so much. The NHL is a young man's league. Big men like Chara rarely age gracefully in sport and he's done well at his age but it is time. 1) Bs will not take the C away from Chara. And it's time for a new Captain. Patrice Bergeron. No emotion here, just Xs and Os. 2) So long as Chara is on the Bs, he's on #1 pair. This is starting to hurt. 3) As long as Chara is on the Bs, he's special teams. Questionable at times. 4) As long as Chara is on the Bs he's logging lots of ice time. He's a n iron man but taking it for granted is starting to show. They must trade him while he has trade value. It's awful. I think it is necessary.

I'm not sure there are a lot of teams willing to pay, or give up an asset for Chara. The writing is definitely on the wall and he's on the way down. He's still a good player though. Does getting rid of Chara put Boston in a rebuilding phase?

Well, that would mean that one player on the team is so critical, the present team can't be competitive without him. I don't think Chara fits the bill.
