I like my Engines in the front where I can keep an eye on it.

You're letting fantasy get the best of you.

Just because our seats are virtually unusable for many owners, doesn't mean we should just get rid of them entirely.

And that is exactly what would have to happen to put the engine out back.

Please picture a 2+2 configuration with a mid engine layout.
The engine wouldn't be taking the place of the trunk. It would be taking place of the rear seats. So to keep them, the car would have to get considerably longer.

And all that space in the front? Did you forget that the long front end on the corvette is practically cut in half on the C8?
The Camaro wouldn't be keeping its long, spacious front end either.

So in the end you either end up with a really long abomination of a car, or you end up with a corvette.

So no... It wont ever happen.

They can call it the Corvairmaro. Maybe Ralph Nader will roll the concept out.

isn't this exactly word for word what people said about the C8?

True but the Corvette is unique. It already starts north of 50K and was already on a unique platform vs the Camaro starting at 30K and sharing its platform with other vehicles

Won't happen from GM.
There is someone on pro-touring.com building a mid engine widebody setup with a 79 trans am shell & some camaro parts with a bunch of custom sheetmetal. Just for laughs, here's a couple of the rough sketches I did for him between what he wanted to do & a few of my thoughts. Maybe this one will happen in a few years.

Sounds like Corvette envy. I want a Corvette but can’t afford one so I’ll get a Camaro, so now you just want a cheaper MID engine Corvette?

No.

But I think a mini-me Corvette, like a MR2-sized car, with a 4-cyl turbo that would destroy Miatas and FRS/BRZs would be cool.

Already made called a Boxster... does not sell well and a cheaper GM knock-off won't sell as well either. The gap between the Camaro and the C8 is just not that great to slide in a mid-engine "camaro" even a turbo 4 banger... Now if you are looking at sloted below the Camaro... hum, OK I can see something like a modern Fiero (always liked the fastback).. kind of like a cheap and dependable and affordable Alfa 4c.

As for increasing the price dramatically, it was generally assumed that the same thing would happen to the Corvette, but look how that turned out.
Where would the other two or 3 seats go? The engine would be in their spot.

Why Chevy can't be another down-level Ferrari to offer both FR and MR sport cars ?
