Key Fob 2021+ incompatible with 2016-2020

In my attempts to make a second key for my car. I assumed the keys had not changed.

I have a spare key from my 2016, while identical to my 2022 key it would not program to the car for whatever reason. Tried troubleshooting and chaulked it up to it having been programmed to my old car already.

Though now that I’ve looked a bit into it, and found the FCC ID changed.

Left
2016-2020 - HYQ4EA

Right
2021-2022 - HYQ4ES (unsure about 2023+)

So there’s that bit of information.

While I did buy the fob off eBay, it came in what seems to be an OEM casing and even has the key code to whatever car it came with on the back sticker.

No problem, if it’s not been long and you bought from a dealer I’m sure they can rectify the issue.

I ordered a 4ES variant key fob off eBay and will get it on the weekend. Hopefully I can program that one without issue.

I’ve already spent too many times doing the 30 minute relearn process and my cars been stuck in service theft deterrent system

It’s just stuck in the key learning mode though as I can start and drive the car but only after holding the start button for 12 seconds every time I want to turn it on

The weird part is that the FOB will lock and unlock the car, but you have to hold the start button 12sec and then press again to get it to start?!?!?!?

I bought out of town from a Ford dealer.........no help there.n

I have a 2nd/replacement FOB ordered, hopefully it will solve the issue. I have spent several 30min learn cycles so far

Looks like we’re in the same boat then, surprisingly I can even remote start the car but still have to hold the start/stop button 12 seconds to turn it fully on or off again.

Good News!

I got a new correct frequency FOB. Put it in the cup holder waited for ‘ready for fob 3’ message, clicked ‘ok’ to dismiss and all good!!!
I didn’t have to start over, it was waiting for fob 2.

Very nice! Giving me hope, my new fob arrives Saturday.

I have noticed it saying ready for remote 2 most starts as well.

Good news x2!

I just got my correct FCC ID key fob and it easily programmed. No more Service Theft Deterrent light and I have two fobs now!

I didn’t have to do the 30 min routine, I just unlocked the car and it said reader for Remote 2. I put the new fob in the cupholder and pressed start/stop and it moved on to ready for Remote 3.
