Mobil 1 0W 40 ESP is Rebranded Mobil 1 Supercar

I thought it was time for another oil thread.

Seriously, it was reported today on CorvetteBlogger that Mobil 1 0W 40 ESP is being rebranded Mobil 1 Supercar. This should eliminate any confusion with the 0W 40 European formula.

This oil will be the factory fill for the Camaro ZL1 and C8 Stingray. A 5W 50 weight will be the factory fill in the LT6.

https://www.corvetteblogger.com/2022...il-1-supercar/

Oh yea, instead of a Dexos2 designation it’s now the new DexosR.

Book calls for Dexos2 so DexosR will get us into trouble when something happens?

I’m running Driven here as well. Seems to be working out well.

From the article:

“Mobil 1 Rebrands ESP Formula 0W-40 as Mobil 1 Supercar”

Also from the article:

“Mobil 1 Supercar 0W-40 may share the same name as Mobil 1 0W-40 but these two blends aren’t the same and are not interchangeable. Mobil 1 says that while the viscosity is identical, the formulation of Mobil 1 Supercar 0W-40 is the result of 24 months of grueling tests and precise engineering, and it’s specifically designed to guarantee it meets the strict dexos-spec required for all C7 and C8 Corvettes.”

Thank you CorvetteBlogger for the confusion

Good that I checked, as I was planning to use my remaining ESP quarts with new Supercar quarts. But according to that last bit, this is not advised…

I think you read that wrong.

Mobil 1 ESP 0w-40 IS Mobil 1 Supercar.

If you have ESP, you absolutely can use it with Supercar.

It's the regular Mobil 1 0w-40 they want to avoid confusion with.

It's the regular (i.e. "NON-ESP") Mobil 1 0w-40 they want to avoid confusion with.
THIS... Mobil1 0W-40 ESP is the exact same oil as Mobil1 0W-40 SuperCar... Mobil1 says that themselves...

Interchangeable? IMO, I'll take that with a grain of salt from a blogger. If we actually look at the technical properties data, they are identical. They both are Dexos 2 certified, 0W40. Nothing bad will happen if they are mixed. If there was some sort of terrible chemistry as a result of mixing them, GM would have introduced a new certification.

>Marketing<

And if we look at Mobil's display, it says:

"New look, same tech"

"The new advanced synthetic was originally called Mobil 1 ESP Formula 0W40............Now the name is changing..........."

Mobil has already certified the European ESP X3 0W40 as Dexos 2.

Actually, the European X3 0W40 has little better viscosity #s
