Another ZL1 tire thread
Can anyone compare Nitto 555G2 to the OEM Goodyear F1 tires on a ZL1 in the rain? I only have experience with the 555G2 as I bought my 2017 used. Not impressed with Nitto traction (dry or wet) so if OEM is at least decent in the rain I will go that way. No track days but driven "spirited" lol. I want to be able to safely commute in the rain and not spin in 2nd gear when dry (6mt) and not feel the ass float at high speeds if that's possible? Thanks in advance for any input!

Personally, I'd not run the oem Goodyear tires in the rain. They are noted as a summer only tire. I didn't feel safe going 45 on them but this was in 33 degree weather with sleet and some rain.
Just my take. |

If you're going to drive in possibly rainy conditions, get a set of Michelin PS4S or Pirelli P Zero tires. I'm on my 2nd set of Pirelli's and they handle very well in dry and wet conditions.
Obviously way better than the stock Goodyears on the rain but way worse than them in the dry. |

I'll assume you refer to the current Goodyear Eagle F1 SuperCar 3R as "OEM." This tire is excellent on hot/dry road courses and streets, but horrendous as an everyday street tire particularly in the wet. The Michelin Pilot Sport 4S has been arguably the best all-around street tire for 5 or 6 years. It's great on dry and wet streets, but can't or shouldn't be driven below 40F, so it can't be a daily driver tire for you if you commute in Ohio. In addition, it's not designed for either the road course or drag strip. Depending on your car and driving habits, there are a few other tires like the Nitto DRs that might work for you. No tire is best for every occasion.

For about 99.9% of the Camaro population, PS4S is the right tire for any and all situations. Once you get to welding in a half cage and replacing your stock seats with a Sparco carbon bucket, you'll then know enough to choose your own tire. |

I was at Bandimere's fuel station [a very flat area] recently with 3/4 inches of snow on the ground, and the only way it would move forward was in idle. These tires spun with a touch of the throttle.

Drove mine home new 4 hours from the dealer in pouring rain. Goodyears performed pretty well. After they got to about 3000 miles I avoided driving it in the rain. I just replaced them at 9300 miles with PS4S. Like stated, the Goodyears are an excellent track/dry street tire. Totally suck in the wet unless brand new.

My experience with the SC3 is that it's not wet that was a problem it's hydroplaning and it does it very easily, it was to me more about heavy rain, standing water, and puddles that made it dangerous. And over about 40mph in those conditions it will try to kill you quite easily.
