Classics
Any recommendations on finding a project car? I'd love to own a '69 Camaro (I know, who doesn't) one day as a project car. I'm not interested in a complete ground up restoration but perhaps something in between I could drive off and later wedge a crate motor in.
For those that own classics, how did you find it?

Craigslist. Keep an eye out for cars that have been on there for weeks, people will be willing to deal. My last project, a '69 Mustang Fastback, guy wanted 7500 for a non-running car. I offered him 3000 and walked away. He called me two days later said I could have it for 3500.
Drove home, threw a battery in it and it fired right up, purred like a kitten after a carb rebuild. |

Look for and old 307 or 6 cylinder car. They're cheaper then a Z car or SS. Especially if your going to retro mod it. No point in paying for a more exsperience model if your going to change the stuff that makes it more valuable then the base model.

I paid $3k for my 70 Chevelle at the Pomona Swap Meet and drove it home. I drove it for a few years before the engine gave out. Now I'm doing a full restoration on it. You can see pics in my album.

"Street for Cheap"?
1978 - '88 GM A/G-body: Malibu, LeMans, Cutlass, Regal 1) Cheap - practically giveaways in original form ("specials" excluded) 2) Plentiful - they're everywhere where salt hasn't destroyed them 3) Still relatively "undiscovered" 4) OEM parts, even from other GM models 5) Aftermarket support for suspension, brakes, powertrain - everything you need 'n more 6) Full frame but relatively light - sturdy cars that take abuse 7) Anything a GN/GNX can do, you can create better... |
