2011 SS Front Bumper Removal

Happy Father's Day to all of the fathers out there.

I finally gave up on the passenger headlight and ordered a replacement RS assembly. Lucky me. I get to pull the front bumper off. It doesn't look too hard. Just time consuming.

The videos that I have looked at show that the front tires are removed. I wonder if this is to make shooting the video easier or is it necessary. It looks like there would be enough room to access the bolts by just turning the tires left and right depending on which side you were working on.

I figured that I would ask the question since I won't be shooting a video of me piddling in the garage.

Having taken the bumper off many times you can do it by moving the wheels. Im down to.like 10-15 min removal.

Thanks for letting me know. That eliminates one step in the process.

I have done it both ways. I will say it is easier and faster with the wheels off, if you have the means.

No reason to take the wheels off, just turn the wheel for whichever side you're doing so you can stick a ratchet in the wheel well. GM bumpers are some of the easiest to take off, everything is either T15 or 8mm, there's just a bunch of them.

Pretty easy removal. Took me an hour just because I took my time. No need to remove the wheels just turn them as previously noted by Cyber.

Same as everyone else said. Ive had my bumper off quite a few times. Taking the wheels off makes it a bit easier but not entirely necessary. The 2 bolts that go from the top of the fender to the bumper on each side are the worst of the project. Im down to about 30 or so mins if im taking my time with a beer in my hand. Having an extra set of hands helps also especially when putting it back on.

I took my wheels off because I didn't want to have to fight the splash guard. And I'm pretty sure that you have to have the wheels off in order to get those to front pop revits out on the front of the splash guard. It just allows you a bit more room in between the bumper and splash guard and I like the extra room. Just me though.

I put some wood under it to make installing/removing a bit easier. Basically up to the bottom of the bumper so that it slides straight out/in on the alignment pins. I was a little worried that they could break since I did it alone.

Don’t forget about the small 7mm on each side. If you don’t get it out you’ll break the mount when you try to take it off

I'm down to about 20 minutes. Tires off is unnecessary, just easier. Your call. The thought of doing it is scarier than actually doing it. One word of forward thinking.. Extensions, Extensions!! If you have about a foot and a half extension with a swivel joint for the 3 bolts up inside the wheel well, your good. If you don't, its a long reach.
