They do provide the 427 and all labor is included per the engine as specified on the website. You would have to call Tim Dyer at LPE to ask about stroking the LS3. I don't work there I am just a very happy customer. I attached the link to the website to show you the cost to build a very affordable bullet proof engine and there are many other options you can look at there. I believe this would be a much better option then buying an LS9.

Hey Paul, I'm also considering a new forged short block... Have read this whole thread and see you're posting prices. Would you mind sharing the total cost on your current build?

$12k for an engine? You realize you can make 95% the same power output from the LS3 heads. Wy are so many builders trying to get people to spend money on things the DON'T need??

Keep your LS3, port the heads, build the bottom end WITH a new crank, and leave the dry sump to the race guys to save cost. You will get an 800rwhp capable engine combo out of what you have already. Sleeve it if you want for added power range and margin of safety for high boost applications. You can easily stay under the $10K range and put the rest towards a MUCH better/safer fuel sytem to go with all the boost.

Don't forget an engine build will nickel and dime you like crazy. "Oh wait... you need a better clutch & flywheel combo now. Oh for THAT amount of power you will want stronger valve train. For THAT much boost you will need to convert to return fuel. To get it to the ground, you're gonna need a drive shaft, axles, a posi, and new tires...."

See all the places you can spend even MORE money. 800 wheel doesn't require you to convert heads or blocks. Just go with a builder you can trust and make sure they can show you previous results.

New question what would be the least expensive way to forge the ls3

Amen on the heads... We took a set that were in the shop off a G8, LS-3, same exact casting, had them reworked and are flowing just about 390 CFM... I'm all over 800 HP with a very very conservative tune... 12 Degrees of timing, 12 lb's of boost, 11.4 AFR's, and 93 octane pump gas...and 427 cubic inches...

I spent a little more to make the bottom end bullet proof, sleeved and fully forged, and less on the heads, though they flow like crazy... Unless you plan on going into stratospheric HP numbers, why dump lots of money into heads...

I bought mine directly from the builder... It's in the signature...

Callies Compstar will handle that power range and will run around 2600 for parts including racing bearings. But keep in mind that you will need all components to support that power range. Bolts, Gaskets, fuel delivery, Clutch, axels, posi kit, valve spring kit, push rods, timing chain etc. Probably about 13K out the door.

ls9 conversion..? probably better off buying crate and selling your current set up. but then you will still be a weak sister with only 638 crank hp so what is the point?

But I totally feel you bro. The constant worry about the other shoe dropping and losing a piston can be a real burden.
Good luck

it seems like a short block is not a bad option... It makes sense why so many guys are going that way.

Short blocks are the easy part. Just spec out with a builder (like us ) how much power you want to make. but be realistic too. Power and price rise at about the same rate. Then figure out your LS3 head options.

Don't forget for the BIG power guys... the new Darton sleeve kit. It will be just over a $2250 option to the bottom end including machine, and installation with torque plate bore/hone. But if you want that 800+whp option, it's a must.

Why are you guys skimping on the heads in these high hp high boost builds? My question is not that of power because i know and believe a ported LS3 head will take you into crazy power numbers. My question is that of reliability. Isnt the stock LS3 head prone to lifting over every other LS based head? If your head lifts and pushes water all that bling that you just threw down on the shortblock goes BOOM!

Modify for 1/2" ARP head studs, MLS gaskets, and anything under 1000 wheel should be MORE than safe. And yes, we've done it
