Pontiac was killed because it didn't make money, unlike GMC which is their most profitable brand. Keep in mind that in addition to interesting cars like the Solstice and the G8, there was also the G3 and Vibe. And there was less distinction (both price and features) between a G5 and a Cobalt vs Sierra and Silverado.

And last I checked, their weren't many 'Fleet' Pontiac companies.

What makes you think a Z/28 buyer would even look at a base Vette? If I were just out of school making good money, sure the Vette would be great. And if I were an old fart like most Vette owners and my kids out of the house a vette would make sense. But for the rest of us between 30 - 65 that still have kids that might want to go for a ride with mom and dad its a no brainer.

So my point is for a certain market GM CAN charge more for a 5xx HP Z/28 and still sell 3500 - 8000 units a year just like Ford is doing.

When was the 2010 Camaro released? I'm thinking the same time of the year for the Z/28.
you do realize the 2010 camaro was released a lot sooner than a normal production car normally is in order to help boost the sales numbers.

If they want to sell more than that forget about the LSA. Both the ZR1 and the CTS-V are gas guzzlers. I wouldnt think GM would want 25k of those on the street. But who know maybe they can gear it to get better MPG than a 3200lb Corvette.

I believe $55,000 +/- 2,000.... I am basing this on the way SLP is doing their ZL cars.

The Z/28 will NOT be faster in the straights or the twistys vs the Vette
U can bank on that as the new base C7 will be lighter and better thanthe Z/28..

GM will never let this happen...
Think back to 1987 and the GN debockle...

Now pricing on the Z
I say 45 to just under 50 for all the bells and whistles..

The C7 is expected to come out after the Z28 is released. And its also expected to go up in price, in addition to being smaller, lighter, and with a better interior. Someone, might have been Fbodfather, has said they GM is not afraid of stepping on the Corvettes toes with the Camaro. If it doesn't outperform the current C6, that leaves a very narrow performance window since the GT500, particularly the new one with the aluminum engine, is also nipping at the heels of the C6.

MSRP: $43k

I'm watching this one closely. I'm in the market for a new car in another 1-2 yrs and this is a compelling platform for me. I hope Chevy can improve the interior by then.

I don't think I can convince myself to spend more than a $10k premium over an SS. I mean no offense, but this is a Camaro. For $50k I can get a C63 AMG with a friends/family employee discount.

As long as it can stay in the same price range and out perform a GT-500 that's good enough for me!

Where does a Z28 fit within GM's existing product line and competitively outside GM?

GM's Competing Products
Camaro SS = $31k
Corvette coupe = $50k
Cadillac CTS-V = $60k

Competing Products
Mustang GT-500 = $47k
Mustang GT = $29k

The CTS-V was developed as a world-class luxury sports sedan intended to compete with the M3 and C63 AMG (or arguably their big brothers). The Z28 clearly belongs below the CTS-V. Corvette sales are slumping and the GT-500 is a limited production (~5k units per year) model. Given these parameters I would price the base model in the mid 40s. Try to get the bigger market with a slightly lower price and avoid too much encroachment on the Vette.
