Apparently they replaced the engine because the cam shaft and other bits were on back order. WTF?

Thats plausible, in a bureaucratic sense. If the options are 1) wait a long time; 2) cannibalize a built engine for the required parts; or 3) simply install that already built engine ... choice #3 would be the fastest and possibly cheaper than #2, while giving the greatest level of customer satisfaction.

But while I don't know too much about supply chain logistics, I'm pretty sure that if there is a shortage of camshafts there probably aren't too many spare engines just sitting around. Just in time delivery and all that.

That, and ... the cynic in me thinks that a 'parts shortage' makes for a decent cover story if the damage is more thorough than they wanted to admit.

Somehow that doesn't surprise me.

At least you don't have to worry about broken cam parts being left to screw something up another day.

760 hp and 625 tq for the GT500. Not bad numbers. I wish GM would let the Camaro compete in the power wars but I have a feeling a 755 hp ZL1 1LE might make the Corvette guys a little uneasy.

Agree, it will not likely happen in the Gen6 Camaro platform. GM needs to make a lighter car that's more rigid (I know they are pretty rigid already! ) with a good engine. We're approaching absurd (already there?!) horsepower numbers, I can't see GM dropping 800 hp into a Camaro.

It fits and it would only take a tweak to get 765.

This will be a true test of Camaros position compared to Corvette within GM. With the intro of the C8 in only a few weeks I don’t see GM making the Camaro its equal even if just HP.

Hmmm...this is interesting...thoughts anyone?

Sorry I missed this forum page. Regarding how Corvette guys feel, the new Vette’s almost out, I say go crazy with the Camaro and beat the competition!

Still no real track times recorded.
None at Laguna or the infamous north slop in Germany.
All the hipe around this car's capability and no stats as of yet seems strange

Ford never releases times at the Nurburgring for anything. Don't expect it for the GT500.

As for other info about the car, rarely is everything given at once. A little here, a little there. It is by no means strange to not dump everything all at once. What would be strange is Ford telling everybody everything months ahead of production -which in the case of the GT500 is supposed to be some time this fall. And often 'official' stats don't come out until around day 1 of production. Sometimes a couple weeks after. So if you don't hear anything official by about Christmas ... then you can start suggesting that something weird is going on. Until then, not much point in worrying about it.

If GM drops the LT5 in the Camaro, there is no way they are going to announce in anywhere near the release of the C8. They don't want to risk stealing any thunder from the Corvette.

I don't keep up with current events like i should so i thought the GT350 was testing in public eye long before that. My mistake. Christmas is a long way off for me to st/by listening to the mustang boys talking dirt. But i guess i can hold my tongue for that long.

Development testing has been happening for a while. But magazine testing is still a ways off.

Agree they could get to the 765 number with limited work and I know it would definitely 'fit' in the Camaro, just not sure that raising the HP numbers and making heavy cars is the right solution.

An engineer at work that I know who used to work at Ford told me the GT500 laps within a second of the Ford GT. Can't recall what track though :(

He also predicted a whopping price.
