I thought about the TH400 but went with the 4L80e. 70 mph is about 2200 RPMs with 3 73 gears. The extra weight is not as much of an issue with 740 whp and 710 torque at 3000 RPMs. Too bad I can't ran at the local 1/4 track, I don't have a cage.

I paid $10k for a shop to do mine. I'm sure it would have been much less if I did it myself.

It's only money. Good thing I don't have a spouse and kids depending on it when I die.

Everything new except the trans of course.
I run 4.10s. With stock 3.45s I was 3000.

Th400 core $200
SFI flexplate $300
Stall converter $1000
Th400 rebuild with shift kit $600
Dipstick $100
Deep aluminum pan $100
Tranny cooler $100
Ratchet shifter $300
Cooler lines $200
M6 Driveshaft modification $300
Thats all I bought or had done.
Some prices are a touch high or low but close ballpark.
I modded my stock xmember. By the time you buy the small misc stuff like bolts and 3 gallons of fluid you will still be under 3500.

So you actually rebuilt the trans yourself? .. Also the biggest thing turning me away from it was that I was told with my 3.91s id be cruising at 50 at like 3k rpm

I had a local builder do it. Almost all the local racers use him and hes been doing rebuilds for me over 25 years or so. Some builders may be more than 600. Some may be less.
