Correct. Save the half quart for the next oil change and buy 7 quarts so as oil changes go youl buy 8 one time and 7 the next and then 8 then 7 and so on.

I run 1/2 or so. The LS3 calls for 8 and when I put 8 in total with a new filter its dead on full. What I do now is fill the filter and ut the left over up for the next oil change and put 7 quarts in the pan(were before I would also put the rest of the other quart in).

just for clarification...are you saying a quart low below the bottom of the hash marks? i suppose the easiest way to gauge this is through an oil change by adding the recommended amounts. only problem is, im experiencing this as well and just changed my oil before coming across this post. i had heard about the aeration though and suspected that to be the cause. maybe it'll go away as i burn some oil off...

Next oil change just put 7 quarts in and prefill the filter. Mine still haven't made a peep since.

7 quart change made the difference for me also. Mine were just a tad noisy at times, since running a quart low it's quiet all the time.
