I got to spend what is hopefully the first of many holidays with my girlfriend's family. Gifts did not matter and I was happy just getting to meet everyone finally. I'd rather be happy and surrounded by family and friends than have them spend money on materialistic things. The memories from this trip are more than any tangible item I could have gotten.

Seriously, this was a real question and not a joke or lead up to something else? Wow, OK...

No, I haven't been bummed by not getting a gift since I was 10 years old.

I got to spend one more day with my lovely bride, grandchildren, and dinner with family. Together we remembered the reason for the day.

Well said!

I woke up, had all my kids home, opened our house to all friends, family, police and fire fighters for some Christmas cheer, got to see my mom in the hospital and then went to bed next to the hottest woman I have ever seen, my wife. All in all, a very Blessed day.

I enjoyed hanging with my 2 year old niece and 1 month old nephew for 4 days and next I get to spend a few days with my 7 year old nephew for his birthday. That's my holidays and it's okay by me.

I also got to have dinner next to a 93 year old WW2 veteran who served in the Philippines

I'm going to disagree just a hair. I'd say you are correct when it comes to receiving gifts, honestly, I really don't like getting presents from people ever. But some times giving things can be in the true spirit of the holiday. I had a family member finalize their divorce about a year ago. Then, they were stuck by themselves for Christmas Eve this year due to work. So I felt like they needed a little Christmas. I wrapped up a gift bag and sent to them so that they got it a week before. Not gifts, actually food. Food that we ate around Christmas when we were kids. Those summer sausages and cheeses, crackers, Little Debbie Christmas Trees. Just didn't want them sitting hours away from everyone else thinking nobody cared.

I'm pretty terrible about giving actual presents, I buy the wrong stuff all the time. But I like doing little quirky things like send a bag of treats, or a funny t shirt, stuff like that, but I don't wait for birthdays or Christmas. I'll send it any time of year just because.

The thing I dislike most about christmas is the whole buying and receiving gifts. I'd rather just be with my family, have a kick ass meal, joke around and tell stories, just enjoy each others company and be thankful for the good Lord.
