The squirt marks u see when the window fogs is likely something u used on the dash such as a armorall and got onto the windshield which should b cleaned immediately, as far for exterior when seasons start changing I use plenty soap and water sprayed on the windshield then use several new razor blades to clean any thing off it such as tree sap

I think a lot of it is technique. I spray the product on the cloth and go over the window twice. The first time going across and then up and down. This way I am sure I don't miss an area.
