Big Ass Diffuser

So, I know from posting pictures on social media that a lot of people will hate this, but oh well. What people may not know or understand is, when you remove the stock suitcase exhaust, it leaves a giant empty space under the car and essentially creates a parachute with the rear bumper. Parachutes are bad when trying to go fast.

Our solution to this problem, was to create a diffuser to smooth out the air flow under the car and get rid of the parachute. This is very much a form follows function project, but I still think it looks kick ass. We will be testing out our solution at Road Atlanta in 3 days.

If you're interested in our progress and results throughout the weekend, be sure to subscribe to my YouTube and follow me on Instagram. I'll be posting stuff all weekend.

Just straight pipes and turn downs by the rear axle.

A few questions:
Did you run a cad simulation to optimize the design? If not, how are you going to know how well balanced it is with the rest of the car's aero kit?
What were the design requirements for it to be so large?
Why didn't you just cover the suitcase area without the additional rear length?

BTW with a few aesthetic cuts, this would not be too far in the looks department from the ZL1 Addons version.

Looks like a guide for an electric hair trimmer.

No. We are going to test it at Road Atlanta.
There's a really big hole under the car.
Greater surface area equates to more downforce.

Not so much form follows function as: Function [CHECK] Form [lol what?!?]

But agreed it’s kick ass! I’ve been meaning to try to figure something out for filling the void left by replacing the exhaust but have never gotten around to it.

Real track aero isn't always pretty. The only thing that's important is that it works.

My only comment would be the mounting and support for the vertical strakes looks pretty flimsy...

But why do you have it extended out so far? Seems very unnecessary.

It extends the bottom of the car. More surface area means more downforce.

Aero is a big part of time attack, but can look shocking to the uninitiated. Our package is really quite tame compared to some, but it's a constantly evolving process.
