I still have my '81 RX-7 and my wife had a RX-8 before we bought her Camaro. I have been around rotaries since about 1973, love them. Yes, they have some flaws but every engine does. Some manufacturers stick with them and work out the bugs, others drop them if they aren't profitable. Give Mazda credit, they kept after improving the rotary when other car makers gave up (including GM).

Excuse a stupid question but why is a LS3 the hot rousers choice?

It's the cheap and easy button. People have been dropping them into all kinds of cars (including all generations of the Miata, to give you some idea of the flexibility it offers), there are a lot of existing kits made to enable someone with little experience to put one into their car of choice. All it takes is money.

LS engines in general are the modern day small block Chevy to hot rodders. There's an insane amount of them, they can be had for cheap, and the aftermarket support is monumental. Not only that, but they can make tremendous power without a tremendous wallet of cash to throw at them.

A Tesla, with a "Friends of Coal" license plate, being towed by a diesel powered tow truck. A tad ironic...
