BRAKE ROTORS.

Hey guys, gotta ask because this is the ONLY thing I have not modded on my 2011 Camaro SS. Is there any benefit to switching my rotors to the slotted and drilled version? I have always had the OEM rotors and I have a friend who is going to give me a set of R1 Concepts rotors he didn't use on his Camaro. Was just curious, is it only for the - oh cool factor, or do the in fact offer some cooling to the brakes, and stopping power. Thanks in advance.

just for looks. If it really did cool anything, it would be on NASCAR and other high performance racing cars... all those rotors are solid for hard braking.

What's funny about the rotor thing is, I attend a lot of shows and have never heard anyone say, wow those are some really cool drilled and slotted rotors! But on several occasions I have had folks tell me, Man those are some "really shiny" rotors ! How did you get them to shine like that? I just tell them, that's just how they are. I have AC Delco semi metallic pads on there and it just makes them shine !! Kinda cool.. lol

Blank rotors plus decent pads are good enough.

I went through the same process with my 4th gen. I eventually went with slotted, only because I liked the look PLUS the hat didn’t rust like the stock rotors. I was warned that the drilled could cause issue with cracking but slotted were harmless if all I wanted was the appearance. If I ever need to go with new rotors on my SS, I’d probably go with slotted again, again just for looks.

Slotted rotors are more than just for looks though. They do help with braking. The slots help carry away pad material and surface gases when braking. Cross drilled however is mainly for looks.

Two piece rotors do help with reducing rotating mass. I saved roughly 20lbs of rotating mass with going to two pieces rotors.

Thanks guys for all the input, I have them now, but unsure if I want to install them this weekend when we do the brakes.

Drilled rotors can crack, but if they are only dimpled / slotted, you shouldn't have that issue. They do make a huge difference in wet braking, aside from that, unless your tracking the car, you won't notice a difference.
