How much supercharged rwhp before high flow cats melt?

What's the safe limit for high flow cats on a supercharged ls3? I've read about meltdowns and I am curious.
.....and for guys that have them removed how bad is the fuel smell?

I'm at 625rwhp with no issues (ARH cats), but also depends on how you drive, your tune, and other mods (like stock cam or not)

The common belief is around the 600s for cats. I can say I have personally not seen an ARH cat melt. I don't know the manufacturing process but they have proven to be a little better most from what I've seen. I know this is and has been a huge concern for many for a long time.

I use an inspection camera to check cats as well as numerous other components. Frquent checks can give you an early warning to any potential problems.

I guess how you drive would dictate a lot as well. If you're at the track with lots of heavy exceleration for extended amounts of time that can't be good for the cats. Makes sense.

Yup, lots of track and dyno time wouldn't help.

I've seen pretty much all of them push back. Usually 550+ hp. Some don't but I would not risk it.

I tried to go catless. Couldn't stand the stink. I put on some Eastern Catalytic high flows. Not too many miles yet. We'll see how they hold up.

From my understanding, its more about the tune, than the power.

So if I plan to go 650 to 700 whp I should not get cats with my headers. Correct?

IMO, that is correct.

I wouldnt risk it, as a melted cat can easily take out a motor.

If you don't have to run them, I would't run them. Personally, I love the smell.

I ran OBX cats for about 2.5 years, at 600+RWHP, and when I finally decided to punch them out, due to all the "melted catalyst" threads, there wasn't a single hint of any issue with the cats. Granted, the car doesn't live at the track, as its my daily driver, but it does see spirited WOT runs at least in the first 2-3 gears, almost daily.

I, also, love the smell...especially 108 Octane! It smells intoxicating!
