Seeking info about our differentials
I read about the 2.77 to 3.27 swap. Does anyone know where I can read more about what type of diff are cars are equip? I'm used to the old Dana 36 & Dana 44 setups.
Understandably these cars are still a "little" new, and seeing how money talks. Do other companies such as Richmond make different ratios? Thanks! |

To my knowledge, there are no aftermarket rear gear sets available for our cars. To change the gear ratio you will need to change out the diff. Even that is complicated to get the car's computers to play along with a swapped-out diff.

There are no aftermarket solutions for changing the gear ratio's. There is one company that makes a 9 inch conversion for about $5000. And I don't think you can just swap rear diff's with another with a different gear ratio becsuse of the TCM, BCM and other computer stuff. My understanding is there are welded parts in the carrier that con not be serviced and or replaced. I can tell you how much a new rear diff and drivers side axel costs to be replaced Good luck.

I too read about the welded in parts, strange. Is there a specific name for the type of differentials the gen6 has? Or better yet(still trying to dig up info) a direct link to explain about the differential? Thanks! |

For OEM information I made this thread:
https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=584316 You can’t swap a eLSD diff unless you get custom programming and custom harness, otherwise all you really have to do to swap a diff is change the value in HPTuners after changing the diff

I kept running into dead ends trying to find any information on them. Even my local rear end guy that has been building differentials for the past 40 years did not want to touch it. I too would like to learn about them but my only option was to buy new and have it replaced. The Chevy tech kept telling me the carrier is welded or non serviceable.

If it’s as simple as tweaking a few tables in HPTuners and adding a harness that doesn't require a near total disassembly of the car, I may consider it.

Looks like buying a different diff is the way to go an play around from there. Possibly taking pictures an sending them to a specialist who knows more about these than me lol

A eLSD swap has been done in a ZL1. He went from the 3:73 in his 6 speed car to the automatic 2:85 rear end. I’m pretty sure it was a remove and replace install. After he used hp tuner to adjust the rear gear ratio to correct the speedometer. Not sure if that was everything to correct it, but it can and has been done.

There’s Hadies in the forums building a twin-turbo supercharged v6 and has an entire ZL1 rear end he used with custom programming/harness for control: https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=613779
