Road Trip Planning. Let’s see that list!

Holy crap on a popsicle stick! I think may have actually found something new to start a thread about. Or at least I couldn’t find anything recent.

Post your road trip plan!

I’ll go first,...most things are obvious and I have a comprehensive list I’d love to add to. So either add to this one or post your own!

In no particular order....

Wallet-credit card/cash/DL/CCP if applicable
Radar detector
Extra Methanol
Paper towels
GPS (cell phone)
Wife if applicable
Chargers. One “cig lighter” and one for the outlet
Meds. IA
Car cleaning supplies (I use those micro fiber towels and water for the windows, but windex and paper towels for others?)
A case of bottled water (you’ll NEVER catch me without one, some of you know why)
Clothes
Tunes
Basic Tool set/rag(s)
Two flash lights
Weapon of choice
Cooler/food
Knife
Tablet
Pen and paper
First aid kit

Optional?

GoPro (sports camera) and accessories
Dash cam
Duct tape
Wife
Flares
Spare tire (I ain’t got one of these yet...I keep putting it off)
OBD scanner
Jumper cables

*I also have an old cell phone that doubles as an iPod or whatever you want it to be. You can connect it via hot spot etc...works just like an iPad mini.

Preflight checks

Oil
Tires
Coolants
Empty catch can
Methanol
Wife
Route

I always feel like I’m missing something. But she always calls me to come back and get her.

First, get a full on GPS like a Garmin. Do not rely on your phone for GPS...a lot of phones will not do routes and other things without a cellular data connection...so if you are driving off the beaten path, having something where you don't have to download the area over a cellular connection is very useful.

I have a 1 cigarette lighter plug for power in the car, and 1 USB. I use the USB for a memory stick of music I drive with. I have an adaptor that turns the cigarette lighter into 2 of them, and plug my GPS and Radar Detector into those. Also adds 2 Extra USB outlets for charging a phone and the GoPro battery charging cords.

Steve, ever thought about hard wiring your radar detector?

Not really. If I was to do that, I'd change the detector to being mounted under the hood or elsewhere instead of the window mounted one that I can remove so it doesn't get stolen. I did that once many years ago and have found the window mounted detectors to be better as they are higher in the car (better range).

My first few cars were old, I would leave tools in there all the time, because I would need them. Out of habit I have a tool bag in my current Camaro 365 days a year. In it is a socket set, giant pair of scissors, flashlight, rubber gloves, jumper cable, and screwdriver with changeable tips.

When I a road trip happens my only change is I by a 24 pack of water, pillow, DSLR Camera, and a duffel bag with clothes.

There is a company that makes them for our car. I have thought about getting it, but the trunk floor wont fit flush anymore.
