Charger Hellcat to Camaro ZL1
Has anyone come from a Hellcat to a ZL1? I recently ordered a ZL1 and my previous car was a Charger Hellcat. Just wondering what your thoughts are.

Definitely tuning into this Thread to see everyone's opinion after driving Both, as 1 or the other will be my Summer Car this year!

I went from a Charger SRT (non Hellcat) to a SS, biggest thing you will notice is obviously the space
MPG is about the same, noise I can't really judge since the Camaro is a convertible, I do think the Camaro has a far better ride, both when driving calmly and aggressively

Former owner of my car went Hellcat because he's well north of 200 lbs and wanted more room. I think that sums up the reason the vast majority go to a the Hellcow. It certainly not because of improved road course prowess, that part of the equation is settled beyond all possible debate
Camaro fits me perfectly, and I'm a little under 200 lbs Some say the Hellcow doesn't require a catch can because of port injection (but the oil will still be contaminated) |

Lighter than a Hellcow
or an M5 - which I might pick as an alternate (street only) |

Test drove Charger Scatpacks before my SS. The Charger felt like the Love Boat in comparison. Probably similar with regards to HC vs ZL1.

My experience in comparing these cars is based on stock to stock.
I own a ZL1 (2017 A10) but I have never owned a Charger Hellcat, however I did rent one for a week when I was in AZ. Hellcat - No doubt a very fun car to drive in a straight line, supercharger whine is much more noticeable & sounds oh so good, obviously more space if you need a real 4/5 person car, audio/dash/HUD all decent but IMO not very user friendly and she's a HEAVY car, so I was a little more cautions while navigating twists and turns at med-high speeds. This car will definitely turns heads & probably has more name recognition. The average person has more than likely heard of a Hellcat but not a ZL1. ZL1 - Is perfect, buy one. Supercharger isn't as loud but other than that I do not have many complaints as I can still fit 2 sets of golf clubs in the trunk (one of the reasons why I bought a ZL1 over a C7 Z06). Backseat is fairly pointless unless used with small children and seeing out the back is a little difficult but not at all what I would consider a deal breaker. I knew when I bought the car nobody would ever be in the backseat so this wasn't a concern for me. Much more fun & easy to drive on twisty roads and feels more "grounded". NPP function is nice if you need or what to change the tone of the car, I do not know if this is an option on HC's. ZL1 is more unique... I love that I don't see ZL1's daily... I see charger HC's & other chargers all over the place. Good Luck!

We had a Charger Hellcat and a Challenger Hellcat, my wife's Charger was stock, my Challenger was modified and made just over 1000hp. We sold both Hellcat's last year, wife now has a 2020 C8 Corvette Z51 and I have a 2021 Camaro ZL1.
You can read my comparison here on the Hellcat forum from 3 months ago, the car was still somewhat new to me at that time so forgive me if I stated anything that those of you with a ZL1 for years already know. I'm a long standing member of the Hellcat forum so I wanted to let them know what I thought having come from a highly modified Hellcat to a ZL1. https://www.hellcat.org/threads/re-h...arison.244952/ |

I'm mainly looking for better handling. The Charger really lacked the handling I was looking for on the back roads and twisties. The Charger was tons of fun straight line, but I decided I wanted handling and get back in a manual.

It's a Camaro, not a Miata. I'm "well north" of 200lbs. at 6'4" / 260lbs and have plenty of room (though maybe not behind me in the backseat). I'm coming out of a C7 Z06 w/ comp seats, and the Camaro has gobs of room. A Hellcat is a brand thing, and I'd never own one. I've owned a GT500 in the past and would go Ford long before I'd get a Hellcat...that and I prefer topless. Having said that, I also own a 2dr Jeep Wrangler JK and a 2018 JL Unlimited Rubicon...which I don't think of as MOPAR, so there's that. |

I’d actually consider a Hellcat, if I didn’t feel like the interior was way too big for me. I’m not a tiny person @ 180 and 5’10”, but I feel the same way inside the HC as I do in a lot of the larger trucks made these days. They’re just too big for me. I feel more at home with the Camaro’s proportions and the cockpit feel. Same goes for my truck, a smaller Nissan Frontier suits me fine( no need to be a giant to reach into the bed).

True but with that extra weight, you get a car that's comfortable to ride in for all 4 occupants, a HUGE trunk, multiport injection and a big blower which is a great starting point if you want to modify the engine. It costs so much less to get a Hellcat to 900-1000HP.
Because of this, its hard to compare them to each other although they often do get compared because they're both the top HP vehicles from their respective manufacturers. |
