First accident!! great experience

So I got hit in the rear at a stop sign by a lady who was texting and not paying attention. I got out expecting the worst because it was a hard hit, to my surprise is wasn't bad (see pics). The lady gets out freaking out and crying and saying how sorry she was, I calm her down and she says please don't call the police and report it and suggests we go get and estimate and she will pay me cash. So she follows me to the Chevy dealer ( I took photo of her license and plate number in case she bailed out on me) got an estimate for $587, I showed her the estimate she says follow me to the bank gets cash and pays me on the spot. I couldn't believe it...I rolled the dice not calling the police and trusting her and it payed off. nice to see there are still honest people in this world. So being a retired bodyman for 25 years I fixed it myself blended it in, good as new only cost me a $100 for paint materials and a few hours of my time. So all in all a great experience with some extra cash left over for my troubles.

Lol..actually she was quite attractive for 61 and she seemed to be well off (seemed like she should be driving a BMW instead of a late model Kia soul), very apologetic, and really nice. Very unusual for all the stuck up kooks running around here in South Florida.

So you let a driver who can't pay attention to driving off the hook so she can kill someone tomorrow? For a few dollars.

I appreciate your comment Camaro Fred but I believed her story that she was not in a familiar area, she just happened to look down at the wrong time. We were in a neighborhood area not on the highways and I understand where you're coming from because of all the accidents/deaths that happened from people texting and driving. It was not about the money, I would have collected from the insurance anyway, I believe she was sincere and made a mistake, and am comfortable with my decision not to report her.

$500 would have come out of her pocket most likely by deductible so saves her money in long run

In almost every state if it is a non injury accident with no alcohol involvement and there is no damage to other property or state property and the cars are driveable the police won't take a report. They tell you to remove the vehicles from the roadway, exchange insurance information and be on your way.

Very nice! Some guy rear ended my wife and I in her 2010 dodge ram last year the day after my dad's funeral. We were sitting at a stop sign going up hill and he hit us so hard it moved the truck up hill 12 inches. We called the cops and he took one look at the guy and read him the riot act because he knew the guy was not going to stop at the sign. We made $1000 from his insurance company for inconveinence.
