I've never figured out why they turn it off though.
I mean if you can save gas and then go like a bat outa hell whenever you want to......what's the point of de-activating it?

Have you driven a car with AFM? Turned on you get 1-2mpg more. I'll sacrifice the 1-2mpg to get rid of the annoyance of cylinder deactivation. Especially if you're running any kind of exhaust system.

x2!

AFM is not an enthusiast-friendly option.
Nobody wants their V8 to sound like a Honda.

You can't just simply turn off AFM on L99 Camaros... w/o an aftermarket tune and thus voiding your warranty.
We'll see on the new

Yes it does... sounds like a Honda/Toyota, etc.. on my stock (untuned) L99, I got rid of my Flowmaster AT due to that fact alone... annoyed me like a dingbat at 75-80mph.... like a severely out-of-tune tuba.

I can only imagine what this engine would be like with LT's, high flow cats, cai, and a tune!

Strangely similar to a ls7?

Now imagine a bigger block with di and holy hell what a beast.

This entire line up is going to be sick.

Wait 'til it goes into a Camaro (gen 6 perhaps?)... we'll be again!

Haven't driven one.
I hadn't thought of the "sound" drawback that others mentioned. I suppose that could be annoying.

could never understand why people mod cars that have warranties.

once the warranty is out, sure; go crazy... but why mess with it in the mean time when there are so many other options to build/customize cars.

each to their own and all that.

They addressed that issue with this particular car involving the exhaust tone while afm is active.

The standard exhaust improves airflow by 13 percent — GM says — and uses a pair of butterfly valves to adjust the sound when the cylinder deactivation system is in V4 mode.

Yep, it has two sets of butterfly valves, one to reduce drone, and one during high-revving which opens up all four exhaust outlets instead of just two.

That's what I thought when I bought my Camaro SS. It didn't take too long though before the mod bug overtook the fear of loosing my warranty! Just have to be prepared to pony up the cash if something breaks!

AFM and skip shift are the 2 most ANNOYING features of these cars! All in the name of making the EPA happy! What a bunch of crap!

I wonder how SC the engine will be affected with the AFM or vice versa.

Are you referring to a factory sc di engine with afm?

Either/or. Heard somewhere that the valves in the AFM may not be up to high compression.
