Clunking sound led to TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT and more

Hello Camaro 6ers. This is my 1st post and I'm sorry in advance that it's somewhat negative. I bought my first Chevy in mid August which is a 2016 Camaro SS with a manual (as God intended). I was in love with the car after first drive and felt it was better than past BMW M cars, Porsches, and other great machines.

Shortly after buying, I noticed a clunking sound when the clutch pedal was depressed. I poked around on this forum and noticed others mentioning similar circumstances. Some mentioned that this is just normal for our cars, but I decided to get the dealer's input.

The dealer determined quickly that this is not normal. I was advised that the transmission would need replacement. The car was 2 weeks new, so it was disappointing. But I love the car and waited it out in a terrible rental car.

Trannsmission replacement took 2 weeks and I was thrilled when I got the car back. But, it wasn't long before the same clunking was noticed. Back to the dealer. The 'transmission specialist' really feels there is something wrong with 2016 Camaro SS transmissions. They have another one at the dealer with the same issue. He felt it is not normal despite the characteristics of the clutch, flywheel, and transmission. We're now waiting (another 2 weeks as of today) for a GM field engineer to inspect and diagnose.

If you are noticing significant clunking sounds when shifting and/or with the clutch pedal depressed, please take it to the dealer. It's important that GM knows of the issue. Our cars are very new and it's important that we get long lifespans and decent values out of our Camaros.

Absolutely. I'll share some records once I get the GM field engineer's report.

The GM field engineer finally came to assess my car. And the verdict is that it needs a new clutch. Parts ordered and hopefully installed by Friday. I'll share more when I have the car back.

As I said in the other thread, I knew it wasn't the transmission. That is a much easier, simpler fix...be happy and good luck.

The first transmission replacement was most likely not needed and there is a perfectly good TR-6060 floating around somewhere now lol.

Hi, has anybody faced this issue with the 2.0L Manual transmissions?
mine is just 300 miles driven and no issues so far. Wanted to know if they share the same clutch components.

Thanks

lol I definitely would have bought yours too! I locked my tr6060 in my 17 3 weeks ago (self inflicted). Found a ctsv tr6060 out of a 2011 and took it along with my trashed tr6060 to a trans shop in Dallas and having it modified to work in my 17 (just like factory) very little differences in fact. So it cost me 1800 total vs 4k for a new one from gm. This is plus installation obviously. Either way can't wait to be back in my baby again hopefully by end of next week.
