Zl1 differential and DSS driveshaft questions
I'm waiting on a email from DSS to confirm this. So I got a driveshaft from them to swap in a 6L90 to my Camaro SS auto differential. I am running the stock diff with some DSS axles but I got a killer deal on a Zl1 differential from an auto with stock Zl1 axles. The auto diff has the 3.23 gear which is what I prefer and I think the stock Zl1 axles will hold up for now. They look alot beefier then the stock SS axles. My question is are the differential mounting point or coupler if that what it's called the same for a ZL1 and SS differential. I'm hoping I don't need to buy another driveshaft to use with the Zl1 differential. Thanks.

I believe the ZL1 has larger mounting bolts so you will have to drill your driveshaft-not a big deal.

I believe you'll be able to get one of their adapter plates to make that conversion, but like you said they will confirm.

I installed a ZL1 rear differential in my 2013 SS. It bolts right in. I had The Driveshaft shop make me a one piece aluminum driveshaft. Both the transmission yoke and rear differential yoke are different on the ZL1 and SS. ALSO, SS axles will not fit the ZL1 differential (not that you'd want to use SS axles on a ZL1 differential).. ALSO, ZL1 axles are a different spline than the SS rear suspension knuckles. So, you'll have to change your rear suspension knuckles too. And when you go to buy new axle nuts, you will need a ZL1 vin number because you have to use ZL1 axle nuts. Our I can send you the ZL1 axle shaft nut part number. The axle shaft nuts are a one time use nut. So I would replace them just to be safe. Let me know if you need a ZL1 Vin number to order the rear suspension knuckles. I think they cost about $120.00 each from the dealer.

I got a shaft from DSS but to use it with the ZL1 diff they said i need a new rear differential yoke and the shaft shortened. However they are so back logged and can't even commit to redoing my shaft for me. I might buy the yoke and have it done locally. I ordered new axle nuts but I guess I'll order new knuckles now. I'll be selling my DSS axles and stock diff for the SS to fund this swap.

You don't need new knuckles for a ZL1 diff and axles. I run a ZL1 diff with axles on SS knuckles and even ran it with the SS hubs. You may want to move to the ZL1 hub because it is beefier, but it's not mandatory.
I believe the axle nut for the ZL1 is the same as it is for the 1LE shafts. I think I got them off Summit the last time I bought them. On the DS, you either need to change the trans yoke to a ZL1 and run a ZL1 shaft or you can have your trans yoke bolt holes drilled to run a ZL1 shaft. Some have even run the SS front shaft with the ZL1 rear and left in the SS yoke. I have run the ZL1 shaft (still have it on the shelf) and now I run the DSS aluminum shaft.

The bolt pattern is the same between the ZL1 and SS diff; the ZL1 bolt holes are just larger. You could try having the adapter plates that bolt to your SS diff drilled and the shaft shortened by a local driveline shop. Shortening a DS should be reasonable vs needing a longer one where often it's as much as a new shaft. Just make sure it's a shop you trust.
