NY Inspection question

Okay so here's the deal, I used to live in NY before joining the Navy going on 8 years ago now.

so I haven't had to deal with NY state inspection since then. My car is currently running Texas Speed long tubes and catless mid pipes. Do they put these cars on the rollers and check the emissions or just hook up to the OBD2 and check for codes? im wondering if I need to purchase a set of catted mids before moving back there this September.

I think its a code scan and visual inspection for cats.

nope! no CEL, that's why im wondering if its just basically a OBD2 check or are they actually hooking up a sniffer to it.

I never had the inspector ask about anything other than the registration card. I have hi flow cats and cat back exhaust system. Never been questioned about it. Granted you do not have the cats, but usually they just hook it up to the computer and check the usual stuff visually

sounds good guys, I appreciate the info. Didn't want to spend the cash on hi-flows for no reason.

Just had our family car inspected at jiffy lube. They did:

1) visual inspection
2) ODBC hook up
3) took two tires off, probably break check
4) lights and stuff

30 min total

You can easily find a shop that won't do a visual inspection and/or not care.
