Rear Differential Fluid Spec has changed
I noticed the second printing of the Camaro owners manual now calls for fluid 88900401 with limited slip additive 88900330.
The first printing called for fluid 88862624 only. A deliberate change was made so I assume they are not equivalent. My 4/19/16 build came with the second printing http://www.chevrolet.com/content/dam...ers-manual.pdf

Interesting. Now, is the rear end fluid something that should be changed within the first 5k miles or so?

Also makes me wonder how many bottles of the additive should we use?

I change oil, transmission and differential after the 1,500 mile break in to ensure there isn't any assembly crap in the system. I found this chuck stuck to the plug magnet when I changed my ZL1 at 1,500 miles.

I use a fluid pump so some fluid will be lost ($7 on Amazon). Pump third quart of fluid into axle. Then squeeze the bottle of additive in and top off. Go drive figure 8 pattern to mix it up.

I ordered some fluid from the GM dealership that I bought my car from here in Canada and they said nothing about adding the limited slip fluid. They told me that mine takes 1.1 liters so I ordered two bottles it's good I came across this thread I'm going to have to get the new order me some of the limited slip fluid. I'm going to do it when I hit 1500 kilometers. Planning on doing the first oil change before a thousand kilometers. Has anybody else done the rear end on a V6 manual transmission yet? Anything out of the ordinary to watch out for or is it pretty standard lol.

DO NOT ADD friction modifier to the GM fluid.
The revised part includes the friction modifier. It's printed right on the bottle.

The spec change is probably due to the rear end groan that many of us have. Read more about it here:
http://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=440272 First attempt at a fix is to do a couple of flushes with the new fluid that includes the friction modifier.

The TSB from this post also indicates 88862624 is correct for 2016-2017. http://www.camaro6.com/forums/showpo...&postcount=601 For reference, here's the 2018 owner's manual: https://my.chevrolet.com/content/dam...ers-manual.pdf

I have a 2016 SS and my manual says to use the 88900401 with limited slip additive 88900330. I did NOT go that way. I went with 88862624 and the groan is gone.

Anyone try this stuff?
BG is supposed to be top notch material, especially for such LSD and other gear applications and some rumors say that the AC Delco stuff is actually made by BG ? Anyone have a way to confirm this? Have a look: https://www.bgprod.com/catalog/drive.../#bg-product-1 Another option, is to get the LS/D concentrate MGC separately and mix with P/N 750 https://www.bgprod.com/catalog/drive.../#bg-product-7 + This: https://www.bgprod.com/catalog/drive.../#bg-product-6 |

I changed mine at 1100 on my A10.
Regret not to have it done at 500.... A lot of metallic shit on the magnetic plug, and a dark fluid!!!!! Do it! But, I've noticed something different after.... Performance page / trans fluid temperature : I think but not for sure it was between 100-150F before rear diff change (Don't remember if I checked that on my 2ss fifty last year or on my ZL1 few months ago), And on the way back home with the new fluid, the temp stabilized almost at 200F ???? Have you seen that also? Is it normal? Thanks |
