20 X 9 With 275s on All Four Corners: Is There a Down Side?

I bought a second set of MS wheels with the intention of going with a square setup with 275s all the way around. Is there any downside to doing this?

Just a little more drag from a wider tire..( fuel mileage )
Worth it to me ,,wider stance fills up the fender especially if lowered 1.4"

Not that I know of. Handle better, rotate the tires, front end will feel more stable and less understeer

The downside is trying to find someone to sell just the rear wheels and tires, but you already have yours so.........no downside, only upside!

That's what I want to do...if I can ever get my hands on a set of '13 or '14 rears. I also plan to add some hub-centric spacers (H&R or Eibach) to fill out the wheel well. All of this as an intermediate "fix" until I can afford the new wheel/tire setup I want...

I, too, was hoping to find just the rears but got a reasonable deal on all four in good shape. I am planning on using the four 8"ers for some snow tires for next winter so at least they won't go unused.

I like your idea of the spacers... I'll have to give that some thought. Also, like you, this is an intermediate "fix" until funds allow some nice, lightweight forged 10-11" on all four corners.

The rear is no problem (obviously), but on the front, OEM 275/40-20 tires on standard OEM 20x9 rims *will* rub the frame ahead of the front axle line but only at full steering lock.

Another brand tire (non-Pirelli)may rub less or it may rub more, as actual tire dimensions vary even at the same stated size, depending on brand.

I just did a test fit of my OEM rear wheels/tires on the front of my 2012 SS today, so the info is fresh in my head. Not sure if the rub will be enough to bother me. I think a small spacer (5mm) would eliminate the interference.

Cheers,
Kent

I've had my 9/275's up front for a couple weeks now. I'll have to take a peek to see if I'm rubbing there. BTW... I did my first competition track event at Miller Motorsports Part a week ago and took third place in my class. I'm sure the wider rubber up front helped more that the driver's skill
