I don't think the engine went farther than the fence. In the replay though you could see one of the front tires go flying into the stands.

Never been to a race. Are you allowed to stand next to the fence during the race? That was crazy. Hope everybody is ok.

No they have people in the area to keep people away from the fence.
There were injuries according to Mike Helton that are either being treated there or at a local hospital.

They just said on speed channel a wheel and suspension parts did go into the stands and it looked like they had been treating 4 people for injuries.

No but normally its a walkway and security gards stand there. This is not just a fence it usualy is reinforced with wire rope. I was in the pit stands at a dirt track once and almost got hit with a tire that broke off the front of a DIRT car. Scared the S out of me.

Speed channel is now reporting 4 or 5 people were taken from the stands on stretchers. No report of their injuries.

I got the crash recorded on my DVR. They only showed one replay of it on the after race coverage. Ive been watching it in slo-mo, there is so much debris flying. The camera that was showing the race as it happened must have been connected to the fence somehow, because as the #32 car was in the fence the camera was jerking and bluring the picture. They showed the one replay at another camera angle. I can see where it looks like one of the fence poles sheared the front of the car off and then as we all can see, left the engine and a wheel laying there at the foot of the fence. I can see the people in the stands taking cover as all kinds of debris is coming their way, not just in the area where the engine ended up, but down the track past that spot, people are getting hit by stuff as the cars traveled down the track. Sure hope no one is hurt bad.

The track is going to have a news conference sometime between now and 7 pm eastern. Speed channel will broadcast it when it happens.
