When you downshift the Trans, Engine speed must increases to match the lower gear. Rev-match does this automatically by precisely blipping the throttle so there is a perfectly smooth engagement with the lower gear..It reads Shifter position and car speed and calculates just the right amount of Revs to smoothly engage. It's Magic..

I hadn't owned a manual since my '83 280Z. This gearbox with it's magical technology is a pure pleasure to drive. I was torn between the smoothness of the A8 and the fun of the M6. I have no regrets. I'm reliving my youth. It's a personal decision. Both are great options.

First couple days I couldn't get use to rev matching as I was still instinctively blipping the throttle or toe heel downshifting.
I got use to not blipping the throttle in the camaro and then I noticed the car would sometimes rev unnecessarily in first gear when I was in the office parking garage and needed to engage the clutch during slow speed corners so I would turn it off. I think the rev matching is one of the major features of this car and it is that amazing. Can't imagine living without it. I even demo this rev matching to passengers. Once my break-in is finished though I will turn it off to learn more about the car (gearing, engine, etc) that you can only get by downshifting the old school way. The one major thing that surprised me was that the system did the same with the up shift. When I would drive my manual cars I would also sometimes blip the throttle during up shifts in certain situations or gears as the car would be smoother. I never heard about blipping on up shift I would just do it similar to double clutching when I had a bad syncro from 1st to 2nd in my acura. |

Am I the only one who's rev-match is not working right?
From 6to5to4 is fine. Four to 3 it revs AFTER its in 3rd. not when exiting 4th. Something is wrong.

It'll extend the life of your clutch as well. No unnecessary wear from the period of engine and trans speed mismatch.

Rev Matching is wonderful.
My two fifth gen cars have both been manual transmissions. I love the engagement and the feel. But the cars both have some "bugs". I intend to get a new ZL1...and the decision between automatic and manual becomes tougher there...but things like rev matching make the manual so much more appealing than in the past. |

I probably learned to double clutch long before you were born...

I keep reading people complaining, even in the corvette threads, about rev match being turned off when you start your car. I agree and I’ve always wondered why it’s off by default myself. I’ve heard a few different guesses as to the reason you have to turn ARM on every time you start your car. Some say it’s to protect the engine so it doesn’t rev up while it’s cold, but it’s not active unless your going faster than 20mph, and shouldn’t you not be driving it until it reaches operating temperature anyway? My theory is it has to do with GM trying to keep the MPG numbers as high as they can, or it’s an EPA thing. When ARM is on your car uses more gas to blip the throttle. May not be a lot, but in stop and go city traffic it adds up, especially in a big supercharged v8, and for GM to be able to use the fuel economy numbers they get with ARM turned off (which could be slightly higher city miles than when on) they have to have ARM off by default. But I don’t know, I just know I love the auto rev, saving my clutch, synchronizers and drivetrain and sounds awesome af!
