2015 ZL1 Motor options
Hi All,
Wondering if anyone has heard about the new LT4 or some variation as an option for the 2015 model year. There has been some rumors but quiet lately. I have been holding off ordering my ZL1 in hopes that 2015 might have a special package like carbon fiber or this new engine as the 5th gen is winding down.I personally love this body style and would like to have the last year of it. Thanks |

I wouldn't expect to see a Gen V engine in any of the Camaro models next year. The engineering and regulatory costs for 1 model year would be prohibitive. I would not be surprised to see some upgrades or special packages though.

You know I was thinking the same thing until they did the Z28 for a 1.5 - 2 ? year run with the ZO6 motor that was never in a camaro, special glass and wiring ect, ect .so if the new vet is getting the new motor it should be an easy certification process to put in the ZL1, similar to the Z28 motor upgrade without all the weight saving cost added , Also would love a carbon fiber edition. Getting a 2015 either way I love the car. |

No we will not see any Gen V small block in a 5th gen. It doesn't make any sense.

I think it would be better odds that a LS9 would be a more probable final year ZL1 send off than a gen 5 LT4 being installed which even that would be a very long shot.

That's very interesting , I was thinking that also. Maybe even a slightly detuned version, but the cost might be like "wow"

That would be sweet. They gave the C6 a 427 vert so anything is possible.

GM will have to be very careful on what upgrades take place... as the ZL1 exceeding the 60K limit now puts it into the territory of "How much for a Camaro?". The Corvette will hit that same decision point for buyers as-well. If anything, keep the SS with a dry-sump engine....lower in in the body.... keep the HP to 500 with 500TQ.

the ls7 is the same gen of engine as the ls3, and the ls7 was also already in a hard top c6 so that didnt require the amount of change that would be required for a gen v in a fifth gen camaro

IMO its not going to happen. The timing for a change would've been with the '14's, and Chevy chose to do an appearance update and introduce the Z/28. It is very unlikely (in terms of strategy) that Chevy would up the ante in the ZL1 by making it more powerful; To do that would undermine the Z/28 as well as the new Stingray.
The best bet for any future changes would lie in the 6th generation Camaro.
