It's not an ambient shifter light, it's just an ambient light to keep the cabin from being too dark. The C6 Corvette had them up until the '08 MY

It shines directly on the shifter. My BMW had the same thing. Call it whatever you want but it is still aimed directly at the center console.

Gee, do you think it's because it's the center of the car, MOL?

The vette was mounted over by the right visor, but still directed at the center and GM called it Ambient Lighting.

At night, cover the light and see how dark it is with the black interior. Maybe with the Ceramic or the Kalahari it's not as dark, black is.

So your point is what exactly? It doesn't shine on the shifter which is in the center console and it is not a type of ambient light? Because that's what I posted.

My car is black interior and the light is barely enough to shine on anything but the shifter and the drive mode/stabiltrak control.

My point is that it's simply called Ambient Lighting, not Ambient Shifter Lighting, thought I said it clear enough in my first post. Maybe this explains it better

Ambient lighting is the soft illumination around the center console, door handles and pulls, cupholders and sometimes completely across the dash and in the footwells. ... Ambient lighting increases spatial perception, making the vehicle's interior feel bigger at night, the study says.Aug 24, 2010

Ok lesson in grammar. I used "for the shifter" to describe what kind of lighting it was. Not a definition or technically what it was called. The car has ambient lighting in other places too, like above the door latches. The OP was asking about a particular ambient light source in the car, in this case the shifter area. So that's exactly and all I said. So perhaps read the thread before jumping to conclusions.
