Thumbs down Skip Shift on the ZL1?! Say it Ain't So :(

So I'm driving to work today through this residential street and at the stop sign I took off and quickly shifted from 1st to 2nd as I don't like lugging around in 1st when the speed limit is about 35mph on this street. Anyway, I quickly saw a flash on the DIC that said "1-4" and the shifter blocked me out and kicked me to 4th and I felt the huge lack of torque. All this happened so fast, I said "WTF!!!"

Then I realized I had this same feature on my C6 corvette and installed a CAGS eliminator...I didn't think I needed to do this to the mighty ZL1 as I thought GM only did this to cars that they were trying to eliminate the GG tax on?!? So since the ZL1 gets hit either way, why o why did you do this to us GM?!

easy fix but I agree why have it on a car that gets the GG? just make sure you shift at 6249rpm's and I can guaranty it iwll never kick in. honestly I think anything over 2500rpms and it won't do that.

I put the SSE on my Vert when I bought it, but to tell you the truth, even after I put it on I RARELY ever see the 1-4shift indicate on the DIC. Maybe 4 times in almost 16k miles?

Not that big of a deal at all. All depends on what rpm you shift at. I normally shift somewhere between 2,000 and 2,300 rpm.

For that matter why not just start out in 2nd. lord knows the ZL1 has enough torque.

One word; CAFE. The fuel economy is bad enough as it is. They don't need it dragging the corporate average down even more.

ForGive me as I have no experience with skipshift...

You accelerated in 1st and shifted early? And it booted you out?

I understand it's to save fuel.. But I don't know exactly how it works.

How's that break-in period going? Did you hit 1500 miles before red lining Shaniqua? :P

Yes. If you accelerate in 1st gear and the RPM's are not high enough before you try shifting to 2nd, it will "LOCK" you out and automatically pull you into 4th gear when you pull down on the shift lever. I've only ever bought manual transmission GM performance cars so I understand why they did it on the corvette as it avoids the GG tax, but on the ZL1 I can't seem to understand why they did this.

This has been discussed before. We knew the car had skip shift.
