Dot4 for 1st track day?
I know once you get serious about racing you need to get that Dot3 out of your system before you boil it, but what about your 1st track day? From what I understand, you won't be nearly as hard on the car your first day out so I was wondering if it is something that needed to be done still. Also, Dot4 is plenty for the SS and ZL1 on these huge tracks, I just have an LFX and the track is less than 2mi/lap. Public track days are also run in 3 skill levels of 20 mins each, so there should be lots of time to cool off.
I don't know really anything about track time, so I apologize if my reasoning is flawed, but I would like some opinions from more seasoned members, or anyone who has tracked their 5th gen on Dot3. PS.- I've heard the boiling point gets lower over time, my car was purchased new 3.5 months ago and has 4700mi, so the fluid is still pretty fresh. |

Motul RBF 600 is a good choice! Change it before your first track day and bleed before EVERY track day! You probably will boil your stock fluid!

Dot 4 on ANY track at ANY skill level.
Length of track also has nothing to do with anything. Top speed prior to braking zones and distance to cool inbetween those major braking zones are what matters. Yes moisture will reduce the boiling point hence why they have both dry and wet boiling points listed. |

You should be able to reach the bleeder valves between the spokes on your wheels. Just roll the car forward or back slightly until you have access.

Dot 4 was the only thing I changed for my first time on track with this car. Check your wearables, have fun, drink water and find shade.

Well, I took the advice and put in dot4. Boy am I glad I did! On top of track piece of mind, the rears both had a lot of air in them!
The car was brand new in April and has 4900mi on it now. I did not expect that at all! Especially since they were already the strongest brakes I have ever had on the street. Now I can engage antilocks at about half pedal. Hoping that means ill have plenty of extra when they start to fade at the track. Sent from my LGLS990 using Tapatalk |
