When I first saw this car cover, I was literally saying to myself I hope to God that is not how the Z28 will look like..In fact, the Z28 should look exactly like the original Bumblebee and they should offer the exclusive color of Sunrise (Bumblebee's color) as an option..The front bumper looking exactly like the concepts with the mail-slot and smooth non SS sides.. That would be perfect.

Let me explain...

GM intended to produce a Z28 model.
It would be to the SS what a ZR1 is to a Z06.
Current automotive problems have frozen this program.
Motor Trend had seen this picture in advance (its probably from a few years back!), and came up with their rendering.
The new Bumblebee Camaro carries this look, as the Z28 was to be ready for later this year (and coincide with Transformers 2).
If things improve at GM, this car may yet still see the light of day.

Oh, and I want that book!

The front facia on the alleged Z28 looks to be a borrowed design from the VXR8...especially around the fog lights.

i am all for the z/28, but even if you drop the lsa , ls9,or ls7 in that camaro you are looking at another 7-12 grand just for the motor.every one knows how gm is they will more then likely charge extra for the hood and front end and call it the z/28 package and charge an extra 3-5grand. then your suspension will most likely need some up grade to handle the torque.
the 2ss decently styled is any where between 36-39,000. now you add the z/28 package, and your looking at close to or better then 50,000.the camaro i thought was all ways a blue car working mans car.somewhat affordable but yet was something that most anyone could afford to muscle up even futher. i dont see to many paying 50,000 for a camaro.
by the way would gm produce a camaro the would out run and out handle a vette first, or would gm produce a vette to out run a camaro first.i think before the ls7 or ls9 gets dropped in the camaro, the vette will be the first thing to get a seriouse up grade.maybe thats in the works, o wait gm doesnt have any money at this point?

Hey designers try all kinds of crazy stuff in the privacy of the secret studios... (especially ones that were born after the original Camaro).

Good point. Isn't the performance division done at this point?

If you read the thread, you learn that this was supposed to be the Z28 design, not just GM working on a bumper and so forth just for looks.

It's a nice idea and I sincerely hope GM gets back on form and able to produce this model. Whether it happens is a question I doubt anyone here can answer - but it won't be this year or even next.. will it? Perhaps 2012 or 2013 toward the end of this 5th Gen's supposed production period. Hmm.

I have high hopes that a Z28 will be produced but I'm still not sure if it will happen or not. Figured GM would have already said something about it. And i thought that GM already posted in an article that it wouldn't happen???

As someone already said...you are looking at $50K/$60K Z/28 if produced as most are assuming!

Think about this too...for an LS9 engine, GM wants what...$25K or so...add that to the $36K of the SS and you are at $61K and that's without the new tranny, rearend, suspension, front fascia, etc, etc...you are looking at a $75K - $100K car with the LS9!

An LS7 or even a beefed up LS3 you are in the area of $50K/$60K!

How many GT500s are selling each year? I'd think not enough for GM to produce this Camaro...at least while in their situation!

Love the thought but maybe at the end of the 5th gen era we'll see it...

I think GM is doing it right here. I also think we'll all be surprised by the powertrain. Think about the original Z-28... It had the SMALLEST C.I.D. of any V-8 model, with an ADVERTISED HP of 295, which was ridiculously conservative. Of course this was to satisfy trans am limits of under 305 cu. in., but nevertheless, that's it's heritage.

I think in this ecological and political climate, the 2011 Z/28 is going to be a V-6 that produces, through the use of some really cutting edge technology, an amazing amount of performance. It may even be a hybrid high performance, who knows, but I don't expect it to have a V-8, at least not as big as the SS. Just my opinion. If GM is really reinventing themselves, it would be very disappointing for the Z/28 to be nothing more than badges, stripes, and fake air dams.
