Stock Goodyear Eagle F1 tires.

Hi everyone! As the snow is starting to finally part ways with us. I feel ready to take my Camaro out of storage. My only worry is that the stock Goodyear tires are going to crack. How cold does it have to be for the tires to crack? The weather calls for high 30’s-mid 40’s.

This has been covered several times. The r-compound tires were prone to cracking in freezing weather. The Eagle F1 tires are not as susceptible to cracking the same temperatures. The warning for the Eagle F1’s are the same as any other summer tire, in that they require heat for traction and therefore a more optimal tire should be used in freezing/cold conditions.

I’d be more concerned with flat spotting, depending on how long the car has been sitting, than the F1s cracking.

It’s been sitting for about 3 months. I aired the tires to 40psi during storage season and have some mats under each tire. I’ve been keeping an eye out on the tires every week or two and they look fine.

25 or 30deg below zero. Drove mine for 23k miles year round in all types of weather, not even thinking about cracking. Just put some Cooper RS3's on it. So far feels good in the straights. Haven't tried the tight sweeping turns yet.

So why would you recommend a tire that you haven't put thru its paces yet???

People are gonna people...gotta ignore them and stay out of their way. Anyone seriously driving around on summer tires in 25 - 30 degrees below 0 has a spot reserved on Darwin’s list. Wonder what part of MD he’s driving through in those temps.

The least of your worries are cracking at those temps, anything under 40 and they have the traction of hockey pucks, toss in some rain and... His name was Azerlaser26

I remember the first time I drove on the summer tires under 40 degrees they felt as hard as bowling balls. It was weird. I ran out and got all seasons soon thereafter.

Go easy on them until you are up into the 50's. I can spin them loose @1/2 throttle coming off or a roll say like a toll booth.

Im in the same boat... Kinda. My winter vehicle needs a repair, so I have to take the Camaro out sooner than I wanted.

The Eagle F1 AS3 will be OK as long as you don’t drive in temps under 20F. On my SS, I drove those tires in the low 20s and the tires didn’t crack (but that is just my case).

I think you’ll be fine as long as you aren’t driving around at night when the temps drop to about 20F. The temps in Michigan are supposed to be 30s to 40s, with some 50s, now...

The F1's in the rain suck balls. We've had two months of 50 degree weather and rain rain rain. White knuckle rides at 50 MPH. have the PS 3+ A/S on now and very happy.

Will swap them out for the F1s in summer only.

Rational thought has no place here. People run their summers in 25 - 30 below 0 and through blizzards just fine all the time.
