Need help with mirror finish look
Hi,
I wanted to know what product to use to get my car to a mirror finish look and also have the water repelling element which lasts a long time. I have used carnauba, spray on, liquid, puddy and all diff waxes, sealents, and cleaners sold locally. Now I want to go a step up because most of these for me last only 2 weeks or so (might be the brands or the way I'm doing it). I recently tried the Turtle Wax Mirror Finish which is amazing but after it rains like 2 times I get water spots and it really doesn't wick away water like I see on other youtube videos. So I purchased Mothers Clay Bar system and a host of other goodies. Now I want to know after I clay bar the car, what should I do. I've read http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=275418 but I want specific products I can buy to get that gloss and also not have to worry about water spots after a rain or two. Thanks in advance guys! -Vai |

I would reccomend Blackfire Wet Diamond as a sealant. If done properly it should last you minimum of 4 months if your car is in the elements a lot. Although you will more than likely get much longer than that! It beads water extremely well and leaves a great finish.
You may then put a wax on your car if you wish. This will help with the "mirror finish" look you are going for. I love Blackfire Midnight Sun wax, and currently have some Pete's 53 on the way, so I will let you know how that goes. Also, after claying you will want to simply apply your protection to the car(meaning sealant and wax) if you don't plan on polishing. If you have a "buffer" and are going to polish, then clay, polish, seal, wax, and you should be good to go. After it rains you will have water spots that is the way it goes, all the water beading does is make it easier to wash, doesn't allow the minerals in the rain water to actually touch your clear coat, and protects your paint from all of the rest of the elements. Now it will reduce the amount of residue that's left on your car yes, but not completely remove it.

Your finish comes from polishing, not from slathering on an LSP.
So no matter what you buy, you won't get a good mirror finish until you polish your paint with a machine polisher. Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk

Thanks so much. I will see if Autozone carries that stuff if not I'll order it online. I do havea buffer but I tend to shy away from it only because I don't want to accidentally mess up and burn the coat. I think hand clay bar and then seal, wax?

I'll probably offend you

I'd suggest that you watch Junkman's videos on youtube to get a good idea of what to do.

As a general rule I've never seen autozone carry anything to much worthwhile, you will have to order it online. I do agree with CD07 in saying a "mirror finish" comes from a perfect finish(meaning no scratches) so don't expect perfection unless you polish.

Thanks all. I've seen those videos already but wanted to know if there is anything else that can be done.
So are these the steps I have to take to get the best results? Clay Bar Polish Detail Seal Wax |

Detail is not a step. Otherwise looks good.

Btw...can you guys refer me some products for each step?
I have a buffer but it's a crappy autozone buffer which is very old. I'd like to get another one but nothing too crazy. Might be plasti dipping the entire car should I find a rear bumper and diffuser. Until then, I want my car to remain sexy! |
