Ralph, you're the man! I hope to be able to be like you at the same age. I may not have a 1st gen, but my 5th gen is going to one of my boys one day. I'll have to buy another for the other though (oh darn!). Early happy birthday and keep on living the dream in your Camaro!

No, but my uncle built three drag strip 1st gens. Those cars were terrors; Extremely clean, but they were quick. Very long time ago for me, as I was barely 10.
As for myself, for a good while my situation didn't permit me to have a Camaro. I actually got conned into my first Camaro when I was trying to talk someone out of buying one!

have owned, 70 Chevelle SS, 70 Road Runner, 2 1968 Camaros, and 1966 GTO....my bolt on tuned 2014 SS would run circles around all of them...with that being said turning the age of 18 in 1975 was the best time to be alive. You could actually go out on a Saturday night and have some fun as long as you took it out of town. The cops were way more tolerant then now. Miss the days of my misspent youth, and soooo glad I was a teenager in that time frame....

Almost and I am still upset I didnt get it. When I was 15 I had a 69 Chevelle (this was in 87). I was stupid and flipped it. Well my dad and I went to look at a 67 Firebird but the motor was shot on it and my dad didnt realize we could have put the motor out of my Chevelle into it. He thought since it was a Pontiac the Chevy motor wouldn't fit.
I ended up getting my 66 Chevelle body to put the motor in. I love my Chevelle (still have it) but wish we would have gotten the Firebird because I have always loved the 1st gen Camaro and Firebirds. I do prefer the Camaro over the Firebird but that was a great deal ($500) and I kick myself for not being able to get it. |

My first car was a white 1978 Camaro Type LT and my friend has a white 1968 Camaro (still owns it after 20+ years). I grew up around Camaros and V8, rear-wheel drive GM cars. Naturally, I've owned my 2011 SS since new.

Ok, since I started this thread it seems to have morphed into a "What kind of Camaros and other hot rods have you owned" thread...very cool. I would list all the cars I have owned but since I have owned over 70 (no exaggeration) I'll limit the list to Camaros and Firebirds and GTOs, leaving the FoMoCo and Mopar out. All V8, manual cars.
Here's mine: 67 LeMans, 68 LeMans Vert, 2ea 69 LeMans HT, 2ea 69 GTOs, 69 Firebird, 76 Trans Am, 77 Trans Am, 79 Z28, 86 Camaro, 87 Camaro, 91 Camaro, 91 T/A, 92 Formula, 94 Camaro SS Vert, and my current 13 SS (the only auto in the list). Some of these I owned at the same time. In any given year, at any given time, I had nine drivers on the property. Today I have only one. I gotta get busy again. |

A little follow up on my story. After buying the 69 in 1971 I used it for work everyday for 9 years. In the winter I had Goodyear white letter snow tires on it. In 1980, I was getting notes on the windshield "Is this car for sale". I decided I better not use it for work or daily driver anymore, it might get stolen. I did retire it then in 1980 and bought a Nova to use for work. When I gave it to my son I had a 2002 Camaro SS and a C6 Corvette. I enjoyed driving them more then the 69. That was the only reason I let it go.
