E85

I've been thinking about switching to e85 soon but I don't know much about it. What would be the best e85 kit to get and are there other things I would have to change on the car? Also, what's the expected hp gain? Right now I have stainless works 1 7/8'' catted headers, no secondary cats, NPP mufflers, a street tune, and K&N CAI.

Not worth it imo unless you're FI. Maybe a 15hp gain with those mods but i don't really know. Dsx makes a flex fuel kit. You use a lot more fuel with e85 as it doesn't carry as much energy as gasolie so you'll burn more fuel and you need to be able to supply the engine. Stock fuel pump and injectors may not be able to keep up with the demand but i'm not sure of the capacity of the stock stuff on e85. It also depends on what % ethanol you are getting it can range widely. You'd need a dynotune.

I agree with what hornet said. I am running e85 on my build. I didn't gain a ton of power, but it is more peppy than using just 93. Plus it's cheap, a daily but not everyday car, and I like the smell. Lol. The stock pump will work for an NA build. I haven't dropped passed 56lbs rail pressure at WOT. You will need bigger injectors. Im running 65lb injectors and ready have them at 77% duty cycle. Oh, I get roughly 8 miles a gallon.

I've found some other posts now and they say the same thing. Sounds like I should only get it if I'm going to use FI. Thanks

I would do it on an NA build if I was chasing every last HP. But I personally still have more work to do first, such as heads and a rod-mod/ported intake.

I am already only getting 10 mpg over 2000 miles since engine and cam swap, so I couldn't imagine how much worse it would get. But that is all city/local driving though as she never sees the highway anymore. Strangely, I think the cam swap has somehow increased the weight of my right foot.

I'm suprised e85 isn't worth that much. From the messages and articles you read about it, they make it seem like it's the best thing for max power.

I believe with FI or a high compression build E85 has its benefits.

E85 has a higher octane rating thus can produce more power for higher compression. Boost raises compression so either a boosted car or a car with super high compression will benefit from it. Running E85 in a NA camaro is like running 92 in a toyota corolla
