I agree, 7th gear was pretty useless. I never used it unless you cruising at like 90mph or higher.

I had a 2017 ZL-1 10 speed and also a 2020 1SS 1LE. The 1SS 1LE is the best bang for the buck, hands down. It's basically the same car less the Blose audio and the BSIL for 20k less.
That being said I have a 2022 ZL1 on order for the spring. Figured I should get one before they stop making them! And there is nothing like hearing that bad-boy whine out. |

It is nice and I catch myself going back to look at it on their site a couple times a day. I even went as far as getting a quote from Vroom. It sure it tempting... They'd have to come down on the price, they are asking too much. Poor time to buy a Camaro is right. |

I think that the following is a great differentiation of both cars:

I’m leaning toward keeping the SS. It’s my first high performance car and I think I’d regret letting her go. Not the fastest out there, but pretty darn fast. And really she checks all the boxes. I really like the black wheels with red calipers. Never get tired of looking at that.
I’ll definitely have more powerful vehicles as the years go by, but I could see teaching my son to drive a stick on this car. He’s not yet three lol. I’ll likely average less than 10k a year so that is definitely feasible. She currently has 9,300. I think I’m going to do what I alluded to earlier. Hang on to the SS, maybe upgrade in ‘24, or maybe wait a little longer and get something really special. I definitely want to have one or two extra high performance machines before they outlaw ICE. Pictures! |

As for upgrading, one thing to consider is the crazy used market right now. You will get top dollar for your trade but more than likely have to pay MSRP for anything new right now. It should all even out though eventually once supply returns, the prices will start to drop again. The other factor is the how much time is left to buy a new Camaro? ZL1s are on constraint right now probably for the next 6 months or longer so the orders just trickle in. I went and bought a 2021 ZL1 of the lot before they stop producing them soon. I have experienced the EV route already and while the instant torque and tech is fantastic everything else from a performance driving perspective is pretty lame. I hope GM has something up their sleeve beyond just high torque numbers to makes the EV platforms fun to drive.

Go to the track at least once then ask yourself this question again. That's the only deciding factor at this point and it's better to know than not in any case. If you want a ZL1 just to look cool in and be faster than Joe Blow with his ragged out daily I dunno what to tell you other than the obvious- it's not worth it.
I own a ZL1-1LE for weekend track days and I still appreciate the other models and options immensely, certainly beyond simply their number prices or 0-60 times. There's a great deal more to a car than just power, same with respect. Sometimes all the power in the world ain't worth spit, it's the same with respect from people who don't even know you or your car. |

I have had both and the Zl1 just gas a special feel to it. Recaro seats the whine of the supercharger, monster torque it s just an awesome car. I ve also had a c6 z06, a supercharged c6 Grand Sport Vette making 600rwhp and a 2011 Zr1 Corvette. I prefer the zl1 to all the Vettes. It is so balanced so composed and that 10 speed auto is out of this world.
