I will track and AutoX this car.

CCB’s save about 20lbs per wheel. But I could also get the iron brake and then get a set of the Magnesium wheels when they become available from GM. Probably similar weight savings and cost, but a one-time instead of on-going.

It’s an expensive option so I’d like some idea if it’s worth it. No fade is nice, but I don’t know about their longevity on track. The C7 guys are all over the map with opinions.
IMO, carbon ceramic brakes are only good if the car is dedicated track car on an actual track. Autocross would benefit better from regular iron calipers. Why? Don't those carbon ceramics need to have some temp in them to work? An autoX event wouldn't get the brakes warm enough in the ~30 second run.

Plus, if they were to brake them out would be very expensive to fix just 1. I'm not even sure how maintenance is and I'm not sure if you have to get certain pads.

It's up to you. If you want them then go ahead but I would listen to others on here and also search the internet for other opinions.

Edit: Here's a decent read about a ZR1 owner, who tracks his car, debating to get rid of his CCB for iron.

$120k heavy luxury track car - kind of strange. Tracking any car kills the value.

Why not buy a 2017 ZL1 for $50k and make a track beast out of it

I agree, I don't even know why we are talking about a Blackwing....

Are you just making up that weight? C&D tested the M6 CT5 Blackwing and it was 4,092 lbs with the carbon ceramic brakes (which obviously reduce weight). The auto will be slightly heavier but not much. While it's not lightweight, it still undercuts the BMW M5 by ~200 lbs and its 400 lbs lighter than an AMG E 63 S.

Actually, you don't have to be in here talking about it all. Why do you even care if anyone else is?

The only reason I lurk in this thread is to figure out if there is an easy swap of parts from the BW to our ZL1 that can get us the net +18hp.

If it requires a tune (then forget it).

Yes you can swap engine parts since it's the exact same engine with just with some upgraded bits.

But you would still void your warranty (if you're concerned about that) because its not OEM to the ZL1 and I'm certain you would need a tune.

I bet even if someone were to go through with it, it would be more beneficial to spend the same amount of money for a pulley swap and tune because you'd get more performance out of that.

The differences between the 668 HP LT4 and the 650 HP LT4 are due to the supercharger lid and exhaust (mainly at least). The lid may be swappable but tuning requirements are undetermined still.

You do realize the ZL1 is 3850-4000 pounds which puts it nearly in the same class of "not light"? Saying you're going with a ZL1 over the Blackwing because of weight is really pointless. The ZL1 is a tire/brake eater too due to its weight and while it handles itself very well, is no F1 car for handling.

Now if you don't want the Blackwing because it's a sedan or $100,000+ or some other reason, that's fine.

Also, you do not have to read the thread.
