I played it since day one 15 bucks a month. It was worth it. Great game, lots of depth and customization. I sold my gaming rig about 6 months ago. Miss playing STO.

It was smart to have free play, I cant see paying $15 a month for a game I might only play a few times per month, id have to play near daily to pay that.

So ... if its no longer free to play, does that mean that they're moving to a 'pay to win' model instead?

It was fun, but had a lot of drawbacks. Ground play was kind've lame. In space, PVP was awesome. My brother and I used to rape in a sci vessel/cruiser combo.
