New guy from Metro Detroit, coming from a Challenger 392 Widebody

Hello Everyone,

I just sold my Challenger Scat Pack Widebody, and I'm looking to get into a Camaro SS 1LE in the early spring of '21. The Challenger was a good car, but I don't think it's for me.

I will probably end up ordering a car (as I did my Challenger) around late February, early March. If anyone has recommendations for dealers in the Detroit area, I'm all ears.

Thanks, and cheers.

Photos of my [sold] Challenger.

It was a very fun car. It turned heads like no one's business. It was a blast in a straight line. In contrast, the car was not great in hard cornering, or curvy roads. It just felt like it put its entire weight into a corner to the point where it began to understeer.

I thought the Widebody package, with its wider tire, and upgraded suspension would make it a better handling car versus the narrow-body, but it's just not. Maybe putting a grippier tire would've helped. The stock Pirelli's suck.

The Challenger just feels like a car tailored for old guys, in the sense that it's a comfortable touring car. I'm only 28, so I'd like something to more dynamic to drive, and start tracking.

I completely agree with what you’re saying but you’d be surprised. It actually handles well for it’s weight.
When I was in the process of test driving it, the sales guy had to been some sort of track star in his younger days because he drove it with me passenger and hit triple digits and hit some curvy roads real fast but damn it! He sold me right there.
Can’t go wrong with a Camaro for track.

Welcome to our happy little corner of the net, and to Camaro5/6. There is a BIG fridge on the back porch with anything you can think of in it...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have. Make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables, yes we are allowed to do that, mom's, wives', husbands, girlfriends and boyfriends here don't care....and take it easy.

oh...btw....every once in a while a food fight breaks out...so you may not want to wear nice clothes here.

Welcome!!

Welcome.

Are you looking at a 6spd or A10?

If you’re looking to track it are you considering a 1LE?

James Martin Chevy has a very good reputation here.

Thank you!

I certainly am considering a 1LE. I mulled over a regular SS, but I think the 1LE has everything I want.

As far as trans, I am leaning towards a manual. I am not totally ruling out the A10, as I hear great things about it.

I see the James Martin ad banner on here. It never really crossed my mind to give them a shot, but they seem to contribute to this community quite a bit. I'll have to check them out. Thanks!

I’m not partial to either, but a I do like the A10.

Depending on how much you are going to be tracking it, & whether or not you love the idea of rowing your own on-track, I’d consider clutch durability. It’s considered a wearing item, like brakes, so if it fails it’s on your dime (from what I understand), but everything in the A10 is covered under warranty.

Just something to consider.

Very good point. I hadn't given clutch durability a whole lot of thought. Maybe I'll get around to test driving a car with the A10 soon, and feel it out. I had the ZF 8HP in my Challenger, which I loved.

I wish! The ZL1 doesn't fit into my budget unfortunately. I want to buy new.
