Extended Warranty

Before discussing an extended warranty with my dealer, it would help to know what prices you paid for what plans for those of you who have your C7s and purchased the extended warranty.

The dealer offered me the GMPP extended warranty for close to $2400 with a max 7 years or 84k miles, IIRC... I declined it.

You can always get the extended warranties for cheaper. MUCH cheaper. And through the dealer too. You can also buy it up until the factor warranty runs out. It's usually better to do it that way too, because the bank and the dealer won't get a kickback on the sale (not rolled into the vehicle purchase price).

Spoke with my dealer about extended warranties at 0 deductable and also Dennis Fichtner.

My dealer quoted:

6 yr. 60,000 mi - $2,100
7 yr. 70,000 mi - $2,700
Wheels & Tires - $900

The best I could find on an actual GMAC Warranty was from Dennis Fichter and he quoted me:

6 yr. 60,000 mi - $1,355
7 yr. 70,000 mi - $2,040
Wheels & Tires - $995

Problem for me is that I live in Maryland, and Fichtner Chevrolet in MT cannot sell in states like Maryland, Florida, and California. I'll probably get the wheel and tire from my dealer and see about negotiating a lower price on the 7/70 from it or another MD Chevy dealer. Dennis says people are mostly buying the 7/70 from him.

By way of comparison, in 1994 I got a 6/60 for $900 for my 1993 ZR-1. Give time and inflation, the prices quoted don't sound too bad, especially the one from Criswell.--Bob

I seldom ever go for extended warranties on anything but I did extend to 60 months and 60k miles on my C7 because almost all mechanical and electrical parts and systems are new. It may be a waste but already I have read on the forum where problems have developed with the engine stalling ... And another ... drive shaft vibration problem. Even with extensive pre-production testing when almost everything has changed on a new model the possibility of problems increases.

Since car is not daily driver...was able to pick up ext warranty:

72 mos and 48,000 miles ( I do 2000 miles per year) with $100 deductible for $855.00.

That's just $285 per year! Months 37-72. Factory covers first 36 months. GMPP Major Guard is best plan level GM offers
