Installed new OEM GM ZL1 Rear Deck Spoiler
Another install completed. Bought a new OEM GM ZL1 rear deck spoiler from Matthew at Wildhammer Motorsports. Great price included shipping.
The install was fairly easy. The hardest part was detaching the spoiler once all 6 nuts were removed. The adhesive tape is very strong! I really had to pull hard and carefully at the same time, not easy. Then cleaning the residual tape/adhesive from the deck lid took some effort. Mounting and installing the NEW nuts that come with the spoiler was no problem. The new nuts have seals or gaskets on them to lock the nuts in place and seal out moisture. I watched Anthonies "The Wrenched Out Garage" video on this install. It's always helpful to see how someone else does a job, you don't have to figure out anything and can pickup good ideas as I did from Anthonie. He used a magnet that most of us gearheads have in our toolbox to FINISH spinning off the nuts once loosened up. It prevents dropping them down inside the deck lid. Thanks Anthonie for great idea. Then reassembled the inside deck lid liner and polish it up a bit. I'm real happy with how it turned out. I was torn between the wing style and the flipup style, which I also really like. |

Once you remove the nuts off the bolts rock the spoiler a little to get the seals a little to get googone onto the seals then let it sit for about 5 mins then use fishing line to cut around the seal.
Car looks clean tho! Sometimes I get jealous of other colors lol poor silver ice

My life with tape projects got immeasurably easier once I started using braid fishing line (30 pound), to just saw it off. Be careful, it'll cut your hands, use gloves.

I added a factory ZL1 spoiler to my 17 1SS, I went with gloss black to accent my hot red paint and having magnetized nut drivers was a big help other than that it was an easy install, and yes the ZL1 spoiler looks better than the stock spoiler.

I did the same myself. Love how from certain angles the wing is just a tad over the edges.
