1SS to ZL1

Looking for opinions from ZL1 owners if I should consider going from the ‘18 1SS I have now with 20K miles to an ‘18 ZL1 with 6K miles. Mine is an A8 & the ZL1 is an A10. Dealer is asking $54K. I can make it work financially, just getting the wife unit to go along with it will be more of a challenge.

I had planned on a SC at some point down the road, so in the long run the cost difference isn’t all that much.

I think that’s high. I paid $60K for my ‘20, and some folks here paid less.

Yes in my honest opinion it was worth it to me when I upgraded to a ZL1 from a 2016 2SS last year even if the ZL1 was slightly used with 422 miles. To me the ZL1 is very different to the SS and has the s/c LT4, bigger brakes, additional coolers, etc which makes it a ZL1. The price though for that 2018 is steep to me for being a 2 year old car but with only 6000 miles it’s basically new and I’m sure the dealer won’t budge on the price either. Consider this that I paid a little over $52,000 for my 2017 last March 2019 and we are in July of 2020 now. If you really want the car though it might be worth taking the plunge and getting it! Good luck convincing the wife.

I wouldn't be turned away from the dealers asking price. There is a lot more to making a deal than just their price. Other factors are what will they give you for your trade and DOC fees and any other weird dealer imposed fees.
Do some shopping and find out more details. And confirm how much warranty is remaining on the 18 and make sure its unmolested as far as tune and anything else that could mess with your warranty.
How are the tires on the 18? A new set of Michelins will set you back at least $1500.

Good input on the modifications.

My 2/36 warranty expires in March of next year, I’ll have to see what the ZL1’s in service date was.

Mine needs tires. I was about to order a set, so yeah, at least a grand.

If the ZL1 doesn’t have any mods then it still would have the 5 year/60,000 mile drivetrain warranty after the 3 year/36,000 mile warranty is gone!

This is a true, but its summer time sports car sales usually go up and when you look online there are not many ZL1,s out there due to the corona(even in jobs lost)virus etc. Dont put new tires on your ss, tell the dealer you found a car for 2k less,( dont say were) and tell them let me go talk to them 1st. I bet they lower the price or match it.

I did find a ‘18 6sp with 4k miles for $50k, so that one is out as my wife’s only stipulation is auto so she can drive it, but they don’t know that.

I paid $54k for my 2019 with 2.5k miles which is an ok deal, not great. I do have the certified 100k, 6 year warranty though. I wanted the 2019+ because of the oil pump and other minor upgrades - doesn't seem to be too many out there. Tried to get a new one for $58k but dealer would not accept my offer (I think he wanted $62k)

Only got $28k trade for my 2016 with 12k miles which is not that good. I had that usual A8 shuddering issues which were fixed for the most part by the trans flush (Mobil1)

I enjoy the ZL1 alot more than the SS, the SS started to feel like a rental and I was working too hard to beat Mustangs, I hate that...

I went from a 2018 1SS 1LE to a 2019 ZL1. The power is intoxicating. the 10 Speed is heaven and in some ways more fun than a manual, and in others ways less fun. I don't regret the change in the slightest. Incredibly fun car. Also the niceties of the ZL1 over the 1SS makes the car more pleasurable over long drives.

I picked up my '19 with 200 miles on it for $52k. This was the lowest like new price I saw when searching at the time. I didn't know about the oil pump issues, mostly wanted a 19+ for the remaining warranty, tail lights(I love the '19+ lights), and the more aggressive pop/burble tune on throttle lift off and downshifts.

The A10 is amazing! I can't speak enough on it. So smooth and out of the way. However it is very engaging when you want it to be. The close gear ratios give you a lot more action. With a car this fast even with 10 gears, 4th will get you over the speed limit easily. The rev matched downshifts are intoxicating. I like to go on late night drives with the windows down just to to hear the supercharger whine on acceleration and pops on decel/downshifts.

I can't say enough good things about this car. Really fun to drive! I will say "smiles per gallon" is a very real saying for this car...it absolutely chugs fuel.

Good deal - get a catch can installed ASAP before you spray any more blowby inside the blower lid and on the intake valves, should be mod #1 on any of these direct injection cars

Aside from whether you're getting a good deal or not trading up to the Z is well worth it especially if you were going to sc the ss. Now the rings are spaced correctly and the internals are forged, that alone would be worth ii to me.

You guys aren’t making it easy!

They got to me on a trade & it looks like they are playing high number values. They want the $54 on theirs & are showing me $28k for mine. I figured around $24k trade & $50k for theirs, so works out about the same in the end. I paid $30k for it ~2yrs ago, so I still owe a little bit, but nothing insurmountable in terms of what I could put down additional to get payments in the ball park of where I would like.

They sent me the option codes so if those more knowledgeable could tell me if this seems pretty well equipped. They did tell me it has an aftermarket exhaust & it doesn’t effect the warranty.

Oh & a pic of it.
